Exhaust has melted plastic - any suggestions?

When I got home from work the other day I smelled something coming from under my motorcycle. Somehow, a plastic bag or something got stuck to my hot exhaust and melted to it. It is now hard and feels like plastic, although I really don't know what material it is.

It is on the polished portion of the exhaust so I don't want to be too aggressive and ruin my exhaust finish.

I tried a few solvents and it didn't soften at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

#0000 steel wool followed by good chrome/metal polish. It must be #0000 or you'll have problems with scratches. I've done this before with perfect results.

Why not start your bike, run it for a while till it gets the exhaust hot and scrape it off. That would probably be the easiest and least harming way.

Thats what I was thinking. :2thumbs:

I would suggest a heat gun maybe, less chance of burning of yourself. But running the bike for a bit might work too. You'll still have to polish it afterwards to get the rest of the reside off.
