Enough is enough. I'm tired of all the OTC products that do absolutely nothing!!!!

I'm tired of all the OTC products that don't do anything. I just used that new nanowax stuff a couple days ago, and today all of it started coming off (and I didn't even wash my car!) and it's coming off in a bad way. My entire car looks like it has little sand pebbles stuck in the paint because the wax is coming off in little dots.



Anyway, I'm looking to buy some good professional products online. I'm looking for basically a polish and wax because the only OTC product that I like is my gold class car wash shampoo. So basically, what is the best wash application (sponge, etc.) and the best polish and wax that I can get? Also, I have a random orbiter already. Is that good enough to apply polish and wax or should I go with the other thing (is it called a porter cable or something?). However, I've never used a porter cable and I don't want to mess up my paint so I would be a little worried.

yea man dont sweat it, thats not wax, thats pollen in the air sticking to your paint. Give it a quick wash with ONR or PB S&W. If its not too bad, a generous amount of QD will work fine.



Your troubles will disappear. alot of the OTC waxes are just fine to use. Wax just doesnt come off in little dots, im 99.9999% sure that it is just pollen. Its going to be a big problem for the next few months, especially if your in the southern half of the US.



If you park outside a QD almost every day is necessary if you want to keep it looking great!

But what is a QD?
 
There's a lot of more experienced folks around here than me. But my .02 would say to go with Zaino....ZPC for polish and Z5 Pro sealant. IMO you can't go wrong with that combo, ZPC is very forgiving since finishes well and doesn't stain trim. And Z5 is widely regarded as one of the best sealants for ease of application, durability, and look :) It can also be topped with a carnauba for more depth if desired.
 
QD = Quick Detailer,



you can get one at walmart if you really need it right now, its the meguiars quik detailer, its a pretty nice QD, they also have the megs NXT speed detailer, thats what i am using right now, both nice products and only like 5 bucks.



its a spray on wipe off product that you use in between washes to keep your car looking top notch. its creates a slick surface that you spray on your paint and wipe off with a MF towel to get rid of small contaminents, like dust, pollen, etc...



be warned, you dont want to use it if your car is pretty dirty (aka, a LOT of pollen) as it will scratch your paint up.

OTC and Proffesional are pretty close to being the same quality, with maybe the exception being wheel cleaners and other periferell type stuff. I think what your looking for is an enthusiast product line, where many people including myself believe they have the highest quality. I think the most important thing is to learn the process of detailing and then find a product line that suits you. For example if you want the best possible look go for a high quality wax and cleaners with oil additives, or if you want durabilty and good anti dusting properties go with a high quality sealant.
 
you'l find many otc products are more than capable of giving great results, its all down to knowing how to use them and chosing the right product(polish/glaze/sealant/wax) for the right job

Yeah, along with a number of other DG products, such as 105 wax. Mother's makes some fine products and so does Meguiars. For example, I really can't find much bad to say about NXT. Meguiars #26 is pretty dang popular around here, too.
 
There are plenty of good OTC products out there. Dura Gloss is excellent, Mothers products I feel are very under rated, specialy their FX and Reflections lines. You can also find a lot of the Meguiars professional line locally. I have not ordered any of my products except for pads for my PC.

Carquest should have it but I doubt advance will...
