Duct tape adhesive on carpet

I let my duct tape reinforced "protector" mats hang out for too long ontop of my good mats and some of the adhesive has stuck on the good mats. What product/procedure can I use to get this silver crap off of my black floor mats? I tried normal shampoo but the adhesive is all gummed in the fibers :think:
 
How about removing Duct tape adhesive from the paint? I brought a used car and the previous owner used duck tape around the trunk area. There are some white adhesive spots on the paint that I cannot remove.
