I sold it. Nice machine but pads with the Edge system are pretty expensive and with the rotary, I figured I only needed 1 DA buffer. I was using the UDM for 1 step jobs and the PC with the Cyclo brush attachment for carpets. I may get the PC 7336 fixed when I get the 7428 fixed so at least I'd have it for carpets again.
 
hey scott sorrry to hear about loss! well if it means anything i have the dynabrade with the backing plate. i love it! its the best thing to happen to me since pizza! to be honest i still use my dewalt orbital if im feeling lazy on a handwax. if you literally hand wax your cars then you should have no problems with that backing plate. but for those who use the orbital machines for appling wax well then they need an orbital. but the dynabrade has been a big threat in my arsenal. the buffer itslef is nice. the polishing you get off the backing plate is amazing! hands down a great combo! good luck with your choice.!

I'd get the flex over the PC. With the volume you have, the higher cost will pay for itself rather quickly I'm sure. You can scope out used PC's for cheap on E-bay or local pawn shops.



Got to have good tools to get the job done.......:xyxthumbs
 
Hey Scott, i use my rotory almost all the time.. But i still like the UDM because there are some tight spaces on a vehicle that its easier and quicker for me to pick up another machine instead of changing the backing plate and putting a smaller pad on the rotory. And also its a back up machine in case the rotory dies.
 
At the DeWalt / Porter Cable repair shops they will give you an absolute maximum value that it costs to fix the machine no matter what is wrong with it. I think it's around $80 from when I had my 7424 fixed a few months back.



Fixing the broken 7424 / UDM might be the cheapest solution of the lot.

From reading your posts, I seem to recall you like to correct with your rotary but finish with a dual action to prevent holograms and buffer trails. Would the Flex's ability to work faster than the PC justify its additional cost to you? Being a Pro, I know time is money for you. Because time is not money for the hobbyist, a Flex isn't as important for the hobbyist.



Another benefit of the Flex for you would be when the day comes and your rotary dies on you while you are in the middle of a paint correction, you will have a back up tool capable of finishing the job much, much quicker than the PC could.



A negative of going with the Flex versus a PC is that for now, your carpet brushes will not fit on a Flex. So there are pro's and con's going both way.
 
I don't own a rotary, but I do have a PC and Flex. I think the PC would complement the rotary better, since it is smaller and much more versatile (diff backing plates, much smaller, availability of carpet brushes, etc.).

Of course the solution to this problem is to use an Edge adapter and then you can change to a smaller pad without changing the BP. Maybe I'll get around to trying the Edge system when I wear through all the velcro pads I have...that should be about 2032 :help:

Personally, I think the Edge System kind of sucks. Great concept but I didn't care for their pads or the fact that the backing plate between the pads was so in-flexible (if that's a word).



The big thing between the Flex and PC that I think Scott would be concerned about is the ability to use the carpet attachment brushes. Plus, like others have pointed out, it's a lot easier to go to a smaller BP and pads.

I finish with the rotary and Ultrafina to prevent holograms. I only use the PC/UDM for 1 step jobs. The dynabrade attachment seems to be by far the best value. Less than half the price of getting a Flex and should be able to correct more too due to the higher rotation of the rotary. Should be able to correct more defects on one step jobs with it too. Still want to get my other rotary and the PC repaired as back-ups, plus to use the PC as a scrubber as needed.
 
repair it or buy another PC...you use it all the time, and you probably wont realize the cost once you start working again...just dont eat out for a couple of days...
