Door Edge Chipping

hi there i have an 08 ford explorer was just wondering is it normal for the door edge to chip really easily like i hit my door edge on a wooden tool bench is my garage and it chipped it and left a red mark and i also hit the door edge on a steel wall on a ferry and it chipped and left a mark both times were hit very gently. is this normal and is there any way to fix it thanks.

Get some touch up paint, clean with alcohol and use a toothpick to touch up. If the chip is deep or bigger, you may want to build up the paint (glob) and wet sand to smooth it out. A compound and finishing polish will be required to get the sanding marks out.

If you bang it against tool benches and steel ferry's, very easily. :ignore

The paint is thin on edges and uneven. Sometimes just a small tap is just too much stress. I have seen it happen before on otherwise healthy paint.

What answer are you expecting? The laws of physics apply here.



Clearly the amount of force you are applying in banging your car door's against toolbenches and steel ferry's is enough to chip the paint. :ignore

I have a one car garage with concrete walls, so I experienced this problem until I put up rubber bumpers (and stopped drinking :think2). I'll just confirm what others have said in that it doesn't take much force to chip paint on the edge of the door.



I just filled the chips in with touchup paint (ordered from paintscratch.com) using a round toothpick. It was an adequate repair.

That explorer paint is soft. I can easily scratch mine just sliding my nail across it lightly.

The one ounce bottle. Then use a tooth pick or a fine artists brush, not the brush in the bottle. Primer from a local supplier works. I'd say for a small touch up the clear coat is very optional. Take your time. Several light coats. PaintScratch sends good instructions with their paint.
