Deep Swirl Removal?

I was looking for a product that will remove some deep swirls on my hood. I would like to do it by hand.

Can I use Meguiar's 84 by hand? If not what can I use to achieve optimal results?

Thanks

It’s surprising to see how many hand-polish questions have surfaced recently :grinno:

First off, it’s important to note that hand polishing and optimal results are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Deeps swirls are best removed with heavy polish or compound via orbital polisher/rotary buffer. It’s not that hand polishing cannot effectively level out these swirls; however it’s takes a very long time. It’s also fair to say that hand polishing is not as effective, as the movement, pattern, and speed, cannot breakdown particulates nor generate the heat required to produce a stunning, blemish-free finish. With that said, the best advice I can give you is learn to use to PC or any other dual action polisher. It’s virtually foolproof . . . and no, you will not burn your paint. Your results will be MUCH better than hand polishing.

In terms of products, if you still prefer to hand polish I suggest looking at this bundle from Autopia Car Care http://www.autopia-carcare.com/sonhandpol.html. SFX1 is quite abrasive and makes heavy swirls melt away with ease. There’s a dozen or so swirl removers, as you’ll see when others chime in to this thread.

Good luck :up

Do not bother trying to remove heavy swirls by hand. It's very likely that you'll look at your progress after 20 minutes, when your arm is ready to fall off, and you'll see little to no difference in the paint.

Heavy swirls require use of a dual-action or rotary polisher, paired with a cutting pad and a compound. I use Poorboy's SSR3 for nasty swirls, followed by SSR2.5.

Just higher a detailer for 150 dollars twice a year to handle it. Its a sure thing and you can only need it once a yearif you learn to wash it right without inducing swirls.

6iX SPEED- Besides what the others have posted, I'll add that I've had decent results using 1z Ultra/Extra by hand, following up with 1z Paint Polish. It's not like using a machine, and yeah, it's tough work that might take a few hours, but it's something to consider. No way would I try #84 by hand, but I might consider the new formula (and only the new formula!) of #2. But if it were mine, and I had to work by hand, I'd use the 1Z stuff.

Accumulator - great suggestion :xyxthumbs

1Z Ultra/Extra followed with 1ZPP will remove the nastiest of swirls. Just be very careful as 1Z Ultra/Extra is super abrasive. Use good lighting, sound judgment, and check your work often.

Hand waxing just hides the swirls. The only way to remove swirls in to level out the finish. Most of the time compunds are not necessary. A good polish with some minor abrasives with a wool cutting pad would be a good 1st step. Then maybe a foam pad it and finish it with some wax with an orbital.

just pull the trigger and get a 7424/7336 -- it will seriously make your life 10x easier.
