Clay Bars

Hands down! Meguiar's bar is crap, I'll never buy another. Or even better, try Clay Magic at AutoZone...

I have used both and Mothers is better by far.

Meguairs will streak like it's going out of style, I have a puddle of QD on my car and the clay bar made long thick hard to remove streaks, I did half of the rear spoiler of my car and just tossed the stuff in the trash. Until they have some sort of "new improved" clay bar I'll never buy it again. I had to use polish to remove the streaks. Every other stroke with the bar was a streak, at first I thought it was normal and it would come right out ....

Mothers is awesome, it pulls everything from old bugs to spray paint from a car and it does all of this with very little rubbing action. If your car is new I would think you could get away with 1/4th of a bar for the entire car. My car was never clayed and I had to use half of a bar (as an example).

Mothers all the way. Too bad you can only find it in an expensive kit (18.00).

Of the bars I have personally used I would rank them this way:

1. Clay Magic

2. Zaino

3. Mothers

4. Meguiars (Don't waste your money on this piece of junk)

I cut the bar into 4 peices as well. When you cant fold it over anymore for a clean peice just tear it into 4 smaller peices and make one flat peice out of that; it will look brand new.

You can use an old peice as long as it's not that bad. If your claying a freshly detailed wax and want to be sure you don't induce any swirls a new peice is your best bet.

If your only doing small section cut on of the 4 peices into smaller peices for small jobs.

Thanks. I'm always worried about marring/scratching my car. It's hard for me to believe that without any loops like a terry towel to push the dirt inside, the dirt on the surface of the clay can scratch. I'm assuming that the dirt is being pushed inside the clay bar since all of you guys have no problem with it.

If you want to go nuts with clay then I would suggest Pinnacle Poly Clay. It is really nice clay to use. I did a whole car last week and didn't drop it once. I don't think I've ever clayed an entire vehicle without dropping the clay at least once. It seems to pick stuff up faster on the car too. :up :up If you want to go by the store brand stuff then I would say Mother's or Clay Magic

Without any problems. Only streaked a small streak on my first car (didn't know how to clay at the time), otherwise I think it works fine. I've never used any other clays, so I don't have a "comparison".

It depends on the conditions of the cars. If they aren't too far gone, and you don't drop the clay, then I would say you could. Droping the clay is the worst thing you could do. Basicly you need to thow it away after that. I've done probably the worst case scenario for a car that needs clay and I did it with one bar. That bar was loaded when I was done but it worked very well.
