centering pads on rotary

i searched and googled on this...maybe i'm missing the obvious, but...



i have a meg's 6" backing plate with the self-centering cylinder in the middle. i just got the meg's soft-buff pads to try out that also have the alignment hole in the center of them. the problem is still centering the pads! is there something i'm missing to using this "super easy self-centering system"? since i can't see the pad's centering cutout to line it up with the backing plate's cylinder, it's usually off by a bit.



please pass on the trick to this...i am sure it has to be easy.

there is a plastic or cardbord tube

that you place in the backing plate

then just slide the pad over it

the tube was not included w/ the backing plate or with the pads. also, the pads only have the hole cutout in the velcro, not the foam itself.

I was wondering about those...I haven't used 'em but saw them online. From the looks of it, the little nub thing on the backing plate is supposed to fit in the whole of the velcro. I'm not sure how thick the velcro is on them though, if it's thin I'm assuming it would be pretty hard to get the pads centered.

i just found this comment on the meg's forums:



"Note: Meguiar's backing plate has a nubbin in the center of it. The purpose of this round nubbin is to help you align the foam pad correctly. The way you do this is to fold the foam pad in half, somewhat like a taco. then while holding the foam pad in one hand, draw it closer to the backing plate, guiding and aligning the hole in the Velcro backing on the foam pad to line up with the nubbin."



i'm going to give that a try tomorrow.
