Car detail nightmare, need help, pics inside

Pics would help greatly. Plus, posting here and getting all this feedback from true pros MAY help you out if you do take them to court. Consider it another way to document your ordeal. Good luck.

You may want to consider taking good pictures of the entire car, including sun reflecting shots of every panel (which will show buffer trails, holograms... polishing mistakes). Try to get some better shots of the actual damages as well. Then head to a body shop, and have them do a repair estimate. Take the estimate to the "detailer" that did this, and tell them to pay up. If they refuse, head to small claims court.

Not only the small claims, but if they refuse to pay the repair bill, contact local news stations and make signs and park your car right in front of their shop and talk to every person bringing their car in. As long as you are not on their property, they cannot make you leave. Make it clear it is going to cost them one way or the other. Negative publicity is what a company like that deserves.

You would think with the "Best weather" and lot's of nice cars that there would be more top guys in this market, but with the $350 dollar BMW detail and now this........................

I can't help but wonder whether somebody will actually go through the small claims court thing/etc. and if so, how it'd turn out

To be honest, much as I'd like to spank the hacks, if it happened to me I'd just be all about getting the car sorted out and then I'd probably get on with my life, accepting that I made a, uhm....poor decision.

ulenie- Sorry to hear about this, hope you do get it sorted out to your satisfaction. If you get a chance, post back about what you decide to do and how things turn out.

A few years ago I repaired a bunch of damage some goon created with a dirty wool pad and wrote a report for the customer on what caused the damage and what was required to repair it. With that piece of paper he won the lawsuit against the "detailer". I can't say he collected, but he made it clear that he won.

Just today I inspected a new customer's car and will be doing the same thing for him. This time it is a HUGE dealership that is the guilty party.

My brother successfully sued a body shop for the horrible job they did fixing hail damage on his car, no reason you can't do the same with a detail that will cost $$$ to fix.

JC you have a PM incoming.

I went through small claims and won my case in 2008.

I was not comfortable with wetsanding at that point and had used touch up paint on a super tiny chip on the trunk of my car. The touch up paint was slightly raised from the rest of the paint and so I took it to a detailer to wetsand it to try and make it more flush.

He westanded through the clear AND the pearl coat. Instead of calling me to tell me he to sanded through, he decided to paint over the half dollar sized area with the touch up paint I provided him which didn't match well at all.

Upon picking up the car, I received an apology and that was it. A chip the size of a pin head (literally) I could live with not being perfect. A half dollar sized area of horribly unmatched paint I could not. I asked him what we could do to remedy the situation and he shrugged his shoulders. I asked if he'd at least be willing to help pay half of the repair. He agreed in person but later rescinded through e-mail, saying that he told me he "might not be able to make it perfect".

I submitted the claim through my own insurance since he was not insured and paid my 500 dollar deductible. At that point, I was pretty pissed so I submitted the small claims court requesting the full 500 dollars recooped. I won my case but the Judge stated that since I originally asked for half, that's what the judgement was for, so I collected on that.

Thanks for contacting me.

I can't see much in those few pics, but the guy not using tape is just someone who doesn't care about his work and taking proper precautions.

Sent PM.

Sorry guys, I haven't updated you with the status. I have been busy with work. Thanks everyone for their inputs and will be following your advice.

The damage to my car is way more than I thought. I feel sick to my stomach about it. I don't think I could have done such a bad job at my first attempt at it. I found more spots with paints rubbed off and also my car is covered with buffer swirls all over(was able to notice them in direct sunlight). It looks absolutely terrible in direct sunlight. I have taken pics and want to share with you guys.

Corner spots where the paint is rubbed off.

Following pics are in direct sunlight and its hideous! Am not sure what to call them other than buffer marks.

Manager is suppose to come look at my car tomorrow afternoon. I don't think I want them to touch my car anymore. If anyone reading this is in the North County San Diego area, please PM me. Or if you know any one trustable in the area please let me know. Are those buffer marks fixable and how hard would it be to fix them?

Fix your pictures. Can't see anything

Don't be surprised how your car looks. GOOD WORK IS NEVER CHEAP.

What car is it?

I can see all the pics. Not sure what's wrong. I wasn't expecting top of the line work. I just wanted a descent work without damaging my car. I don't think thats too much to ask from a business.

The car is 2007 Infiniti G35

Oh my god....:jaw:

I'm sorry that you're going through this, but I must say that's one of the most abused, flat-out negligent hack job details I've ever seen. I truly hope you go after whoever did that to your car to the full extent of the law. There is NO excuse for that.

I can see the pictures now.

However I still don't think you understand. You get details that you see on these pages, or you get what you received. No in betweens.

Oh man.... that is truly criminal negligence. Yeah, take 'em to court. Or better yet, get on Judge Judy and let her yell at the detailers.
