Can't get swirls out after trying lots of techniques

I am working on a 1994 Mustang GT that's Black and I can't seem to get the swirls out. I started with horriable spiderwebs. I took my PC with a mequiars Burgandy Cutting pad with DACP, which took the fine scratches and made more spaced out cobwebs.

I then procceded this with a mequiars Polishing pad and DACP. This again made lots of little cobweb like scratches and swirls in the paint. Then it was the mequiars polishing pad with SMR 2.0, again left with lots of little swirl cobweb marks. I just don't seem to be making any progress at this point. What am I doing wrong? I have read most every thread I could to remove swirl marks!

It sounds to me like you're not letting the product work enough. DACP has diminishing abrasives, if you dont give them a chance to break down then you will marr the paint.



Try concentrating on just one 2'x2' area, use the cutting pad and the polishing pad. Skip the DACP on the polishing pad and just use the SMR and see what happens. Work both polishes until almost gone.
 
Okay I will try that. the part that makes this the hardest is the swirls only show under daylight and incondescent lighting. When I am under my florescent tubes I can't see any of the swirls and it looks like a show car!.

The whole car is already gone over with DACP and a cutting pad so now I am working on SMR 2.0 with a polishing pad. This seems to yield nice results. Well back to work for me since only time I can see these marks are in partial shade.

I agree, I think the best advice you can get when working with DACP on a PC is gggggo slllllloooooowwwwww. I mean, way slower than you can imagine. And spend quite a bit of time on each section till it's pretty much gone as stated above.

I was using the PC with the mentality of a high-speed orbital, I guess that's why it wasn't working LOL. This is my first car I have used the PC on... before that I used a MK 9227.

I am looking at the panels and I see all the panels I polished still have the very fine swirls now. I am running the PC at speed 5 -5.5 . Should I ...



A) Re-do them with DACP and a cutting pad and work the polish till it turns into a paste redisue.



B) Use a Polising pad and SMR 2.0 and work the polish till it turns into a paste redisue.



Times running out so I have to have a game plan to finish the car today.

Well I guess I will have to come to terms that I can "NEVER" get the most minute swirl marks out of black paint :( Howerver It does look pretty darn good... Maybee once I glaze and wax it will look that much better!

A little off topic, but why did you decide to tackle this job with a pc rather than your Makita 9227. Just wondering because I am considering "moving up" from a pc to a rotary.

Tom,

The pc is much safer than the rotary, as you can really mess up paint if your not skilled at running one. I always opt for the PC first and use the rotary to get out those really deep defects in the paint.

pwr4all3- Does it seem like the marring you still see is



a) Marring that was alrady there, that your products/procedures can't remove?



b) Marring *from* your products/procedures?
