My 15 year old son ordered some parts for his '93 Prelude VTEC on the net and I figured I'd be in for some work. I was busy painting in the house and didn't hear from him a while so I checked and he had installed his clear corner lights, new Honda emblems, air intake and upper strut bar brace by himself! The only thing I had to do was make a little bracket to brace the front of the air intake. He's been a little slow on jumping in on the car project til now, so I couldn't be more proud. I guess maybe he was paying attention while "we" worked on his car!

Its always good to see another young person get involved in the vehicle modification scene. It can be quite fun!





of course, just look out or he'll want altezzas, a 50' wing, body kit, and the list just goes on....

Looks good. Good choice on the short ram intake too. They are a lot louder than the full length ones. ;)

I don't know if it will work on his car but I put a piece of pipe between the bottom of the filter and the ground. Actually, I stole it off the rain gutter in my old apartment complex. :cool: In my car I could wedge it down under the filter and all the way to the bottom of the car. You could even fashion some sort of scoop down there if you were clever enough. It would help cool it down because on the short rams they are almost more like a "hot air intake" versus a "cold air intake". :)
 
Fryed_Up, here's a full pic taken last night. The clear corner lights really do look a lot better that the stock amber things, I think. Also, the strut bar was only $24 and it is really a good quality piece. The internet company we got all the parts from was really great. Fast shipping, really nice products with great prices!

You know I wonder - has the previous owner of the car who had it lookin like crap seen it since this transformation you guys have done on it?? I bet he'd be in total shock that his car could have looked this good had he taken care of it....

You know I was thinking the same thing about my car's previous owner. Although it didn't look nearly as bad as dlw's Prelude, it was not cared for properly. The difference to me is night and day. I may email him a picture of it to show him how great (and clean) it looks now.
 
When we first got the car looking good, I sent a CD full of pictures to the previous owner in New Mexico. We never heard back from him and I figured that maybe he was felt we were bragging or something as opposed to the fact that we thought he would appreciate how much my son loved the car. Go figger. BTW, the thing gets driven almost daily by the tall skinny kid you can see in the attached pic and myself. He turns 16 August 8, so I suspect my days of riding shotgun are limited, as he's had a few female friends over already sitting in the car in the driveway listening to the stereo.

you're right...... I know I certainly hated having my parents in the car with me when I had the ability to drive by myself.



Also, just you wait: soon enough, those "male friends" who are "listening to the stereo" will become "female friends" who will be doing a little more than just "listening to the stereo" :p ;) :D



(so THATS what they're calling it these days..... hmmm.....) j/k.... :o





oh, and all you can do is hope that he keeps the car as clean as you/he have so far - I certainly hope he will because thats a beautiful car, but sometimes kids arent as interested in that end of it.....
 
Hey, dlw... quick question for ya. What did you paint the header cover with? Is it just high temp engine spray or did you find something else? How is it holding up? I don't think I'll paint mine but I know that I have to field that question all the time on another message board.
 
Shiny Lil Dtlr....he's already been inviting girls over to see his car (I'm envious). My wife and I hope the totally useless, tiny back seat helps deter any shennanigans!



Jngrbrdman....the header cover is painted with Plasti-Kote Hot Paint, "Ultra high temperature", up to 1500 degrees. Painted it early this spring and it still looks great. I've used Plasti-Kote caliper spray paint on both my Jeep (yellow-over a year ago) and the Prelude's blue calipers. Both still look great. I've really been happy with Plasti-Kote products.

hopefully you're right..... its not good to be doing those type of things before marriage.



oh, and another couple mod suggestions that would look good IMO:



- Neon underbody lights in blue



- paint front grilles white to match headlights/clear corners (I think that would give it a completed look)

I used some engine paint to do my heat sheild in silver and its already chipping after about 5 months around the letters and holes. I gotta redo it here pretty soon. :(



And I'd be careful bout underbody neons, they're kinda illegal :p



Those exterior shots look great, the car has a very nice shine, gotta love that black. :up

Jman: On my Integra I polished the header cover. Started with a low grit wet/dry paper and worked my way up to metal polish. It looks pretty good. Just a suggestion for ya.
 
I suggest you lower the car with those wheels on it.....my integra looks 100% better and handling is improved by being able to go 20-25mph faster around turns. Here's a pic but it's lowered more now so it looks and handles even better (I have Tein SS coilovers). Whichever way you decide to go (coilovers, coilover sleeves, or springs) make sure you get new struts to go with for a better ride (true coilovers like I have is the whole shabang).

Another good thing to do is to buy aircraft grade stripper and spray it all over the valve cover, then hose it off and the black paint from the factory will come right off.
 
Nice teg Scrampa! I'd like to lower mine but I'm thinking about selling it, so I'm gonna hold off for a while. I really don't like the gap on the stock Integras.

Then I won't tell you what my ex-girlfriend and I managed to do in the back seat of my 1988 Prelude SI... and we are both 5' 10"! :D



Oh... and the passenger seat reclined WAAAAY back. :xyxthumbs
