:usa Hello all,

New to the forum and need some help on gettting out some gel coat dings on a boat.

Area is about 6"x6"and it is like it has been pecked. It is not down to the fiberglass.

I have a porter cable 7424 and need some info procedure on buffing/compounding it out.

I have only used the porter for waxing and am not familiar with the procedure/compounds polishers/pads etc.The boat is new and want to keep it that way.

This forum is incredible, but tough to find marine detail applications.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by pecked, but if something has actually penetrated the gel coat then buffing isn't going to correct it unless it's just some staining on the surface. You might be able to wet sand it smooth with some fine paper (1500 grit and then work up to 3000) and then follow with some compound like Meguiars DACP. A PC might do the job, but a rotary would probably make the job easier. If uncomfortable with doing any surface correction I would caution you to maybe see a detailer or body shop that might be able to help you out as a small problem can turn into a big problem real quick.
