SO , five years later (nothing like resurrecting an old thread topic Captain Obvious!) and I did I miss something about how well the Shoe Goo adhesive worked repairing this de-laminating/disintegrating (technical terms for coming apart) Rupe's backing plate OR what the consensus was on why this may be happening, like too much heat from over-use OR was ripping off the pad from the Velcro not being done in an easy-peel technique manner?
I ask because I know Rupe's makes a special tool called the Pad Claw to help remove larger pads from backing plates of that pad size. Just wonder if anyone has it and uses it for that purpose and is it beneficial for pad removal. Just curious....

If anybody does find an adhesive that works for reattaching velcro to backing plates, I would like to hear about it. I have a household scrubber with a proprietary backing plate that needs repaired as I can't get a replacement. Just removing the oe adhesive (yes, 3M Adhesive Remover, old pre-VOC version) is extremely challenging, but I'm still working on it.

I won't be testing the pad claw. Someone else will have to help you with that
