Autopians in the UK with a PC

Considering how much we spend on sprucing up our cars, I can't see what all the fuss is about with the cost of the PC. It's not that expensive, it arrives from the US in 72 hours, it works brilliantly & it won't damage your car however much a novice you are.

Would you risk your orbital sander on your pride & joy just to save a few bob?

The PC is a sander aswell. If im not mistaken Makita and Bosch make orbital sanders which probably will do the same job. Only reason i have gone for the PC is for safety, its been tried and tested and it works well . I do agree that one of the orbital sanders in the uk may do the job as well as the pc, its just a case of trial and error and a lot of money.

Orbital sanders are available in most shops. Finding one which will use proper pads is hard, finding ones which work at the right speed settings is very hard. Most sanders tend to work at about 15000 opm whereas a PC goes to about 3000 opm. This does not mean there are none for sale but I have not seen any.

Most bodyshops will use a rotary ( or will use air driven polishers) but that requires a higher level of skill compared to a PC. Maybe someone should restart the searching of power tools.

Vindaloo is right, the ease of buying from the States these days should not really be a hurdle in getting a great shine - for the price of a few tyres.

Shipping was about $40 for 72 hour turnround, but remember you will have to pay VAT as well, but you would have to pay that on purchases in the UK anyway. The carrier (UPS) will also add about £10 for handling in the UK.

Coastal tools (the cheapest in the US) ship without any trouble to the UK, takes 5 mins to order on their web site & it calculates the carriage for you, so you know how much before you confirm your purchase.

Meguairs, have confirmed they will not be selling their version of the PC. To expensive to ship and comply with electrical regs.

Costal Tools even checked my PC before shipping to make sure it worked so that might be worth asking them if anyone is going to buy from them.

Stick to the PC, it cost me £20 less than the Makita @ discount & that includes carriage, transformer, duty & taxes, extra counterweight & velcro pad.

S basically this is a uk PC, right? Might get this instead of a true PC.

A true pc is going to cost me about £100 inc shipping, £18 vat, £10 ups handling, £60ish transformer, with practically no warranty.

The makita is about £220 inc vat with 12 months warranty and is 240v. Would it not be a better buy?

What do you all think?

Thanks

I would send a PM to cvcaelen and see what he thinks. I have no idea what type of pads, backing plates etc could be used. Maybe all this stuff is standardised so you simply order everything else from Meguiars.

If I did not have a PC, I propberly would have bought the BO6040
