ARRRGH Road Tar

Driving to work...see loose gravel on road (I would usually avoid, but little behind heading to work)...with no sign posted....workers are laying down top coat of gravel with...then coating with tar...well fortunately nothing is on my paint...but my wheel wells are covered with sticky tar and gravel...tried a pressure wash with their "pre-soak", "wheel cleaner" and the power wash...but still looks like hell in there...any advice??
 
u think thats bad check your rims i bet $5. that its all over them too (also inside of rim) the quicker you take it off the easier it will come off! but ya something solvant bsed to remove, not to strong though
 
rims are fine (not sure about inside tho)...might try wd40...pressure wash was struggling to move that crud...thanks
 
I know most zainophiles think Zanything can cure the common cold...but Z-PC in my wheel wells?? plastic and rubberized wheel wells??
 
WD-40, PB Blaster, Rust Eater...any of the highly penetrative oils will make quick work of the tar. psl car wash is right though, you will need a solvent-based cleaner to tackle the mess.

That's pretty funny. I would recommend going down to the local paint or hardware store and picking up some mineral spirits. It's much cheaper than buying specialty products. To give it some boost, you can buy a small can of xylene (xylol) and mix it 70% mineral spirits with 30% xylene. It will help soften and disolve the tar.
