Applying compound before buffing

Ive seen people apply their compound in different ways, any advantages or disadvantages to each? Obviously always a small section at a time.

-Sling on to surface and spread around with buffer

-Apply evenly with another applicator then buff off

-Apply it to pad then spread it

What are your opinions or experiences that work best

Thanks again

I apply the polish/compound to the pad, then dab or smear it on the area I'll be working on with the PC turned off.

Never turn the PC on unless it's in contact with the surface, likewise while using turn the PC off before lifting it from the surface. If not whatever product you're using will be slung all over the place!

I think the practice of *slinging* it onto the surface is usually done when employing a rotary, but not PC. I always just put the compound/polish directly on the pad and smear it around a bit on the surface before turning the pc on.
