Sorry to treadjack, but is it also better to use 4" pads on a PC7424XP?
....the "XP" is a better machine in a few ways including a more powerful motor. While I haven't used one personally, I would expect it does a better job than the v.1 with the larger pads as a result. I know there have been a couple of reviews/comparisons by other members who have purchased the XP. You may want to do a search to see what they have to say about it.

Heh heh, I love it :D Glad I'm getting throught to somebody!

I just might have to pick up one of these newfangled machines and see about the diffs for myself  Sheesh...another, *eighth*, polisher?!?

Hey Accumulator, would you be able to tell me where to get a smaller backing plate and some 4in pads? My local supplier doesn't have any in stock. They had a great starter kit which included a 3.5in backing and your choice of three difference LC pads all for under 30 bucks.

....AutoGeek is where I source most of my supplies. They have the 3.5" BP for $13 and pads for around $8 - $10 for two packs. They recently had a 20% sale you just missed but there are coupon codes you can use to get additional discounts (i.e. "clubmember" for 10% off, "AGO" for free shipping on orders >$95, etc.). ....depedning on your state there may even be no tax. :)

I can't for the life of me remember where I got my little 2.75" PC backing plate. So many people have had failures with little plates but mine's still fine after years of use.

Note that backing plates made for the Cyclo will also work on the PC.

I'd try Top of the Line Auto Detailing Supplies , Cyclo Toolmakers , and We Are Car Care -- Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detailing Supplies, Car Buffers & Car Accessories Store but I'm sure there are other vendors with good products too.

I got a Canadian supplier that can ship me a 3.5" backing plate along with two

4" LC Pads for $35.00 Is this a good deal?

....I can get the 3.5" backing plate with (4) LC 4" pads and pay $29-$33 USD at normal prices. Obviously, being in Canada is another factor to consider but you may want to shop around some more.

OK I found a good supplier in Canada but the only problem is that he carries three pads choices in a 4" diameter. Orange, White and red. I was hoping to have dark gray instead but now that I think of it, I can use the red pad to layer zaino on.

Or use the red pad for final polishing and do the Z by hand. IMO we don't always (hardly ever?) really *NEED* all the subtlely different types of pads anyhow.

Somebody from here in the states could get you the 4" LC dark gray if you really want it.

Cholleman- That looks OK, but I'm not a big fan of rotary-to-PC adaptors and I wouldn't have much use for a few packs of pad cleaner.

i looked on AG's website but didn't see the 2.75" plates anywhere, just the 3.5 which i assume would still be fine. i think i'll need a new counter weight as well, right?

The 3.5" plate will be fine, but you'll have to make sure any PFW pads are 4" and not the previously-common 3.5" ones.

No, IMO you don't need a different counterweight. I use the 6" weight with every size plate/pad. The weights are designed around the original PC backing plate with a single sheet of sandpaper stuck to it, and the backing plates we're using and the foam/wool pads (wet with product) are outside that box anyhow...or at least that's how I see it.

I was going to pick up some Orange/White/Green with 105 but until you mentioned it, I hadn't thought about PFW. I know they cut more than foam, but as someone that could be considered a rookie with a healthy dose of common sense, are they any more dangerous than foam?
