2011 Civic Clear Bra Prep

I just used EF Hi-Intensity cleaner for the first time yesterday to clean the interior vinyl of the Explorer.

I sprayed the top o fthe dash and had some overspray on the glass. Tried to clean it off maybe 20-30 minutes after spraying and it left some cloudiness on the windshield that will not come off with mineral spirits, water, or acetone. I can feel the glass surface being a bit rough as if it's been chemically etched.

ALl I can say is that I was glad it wasn't the Audi or the Porsche:scared

Has anyone else have this happen?

Wow..... I am not sure I would recommend using EF Hi for cleaning the dash! I would go with a regular vinyl cleaner for that. EF Hi is a great product for use on tires and wheels. It's strong stuff! I have recently found that it can clean black tire marks off my cement drive. As for etching glass, I wouldn't know. But windshields can have a coating on the interior for safey reasons. The glass itself is also somewhat soft for I guess the same reasons.

You might try some Bon Ami or a glass polish to see if that helps.

EF HI is a rather strong choice for cleaning a dash/interior, especially if you used it without dilluting it.

As was stated, EF HI is typically used as a tire cleaner or where a strong cleaner is required. My advice in regard to the hazing on the glass would be a glass polish. I have used Zaino Glass Polish and it is a nice, mild polish that should definitely remove hazing.

Good luck with that, and let us know how you make out. :)

Ya know, that got me thinkin'. I had a few black scuff marks on my linoleum kitchen floor (it's old apartment junk). I tried Simple Green, 409, and Charlie's Soap to no avail. Whipped out the EFHI and a sponge - took the marks right off. Now I have the nicest looking, worn out, cut up, junky kitchen linoleum.

I know alot of people come to Autopia looking for hard info. But it's the anecdotal comments made by Autopians that help me the most. I find using products creatively is much more effective than using products in a literal, step-by-step sense.

Thanks, Henry.

I would say try the zaino glass polish...... I've had good results with it cleaning up etched exterior-side glass...... should work inside as well I would think. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies.

The Explorer's interior had not been properly cleaned in a looooong time and I started using EF HI on the plastic sills which were vile, and just kept going amazed at how well it was working... Should've taken before and after pics.

Well, now I really know how strong it *really* is. In this day of hyperbole and marketing hype, it's refreshing to find a product that truly is what it says on the label "HIGH Intensity".

I need to order some ZFX so I'll get the Zaino glass polish as well

I did a new car detail on this Civic about a month ago, which included 3 applications of Polwerlock. Despite the solid protection from contaminants, the front end is taking abuse quickly from road debris. Now I am prepping it for a clear bra. I started by washing with ONR. I then clayed the hood, bumper, and front fenders. As most of the bug guts came off in the wash the clay was fairly clean when finished.

I then polished the surfaces to be covered with M205 using a PC and green polishing pad.

To remove the polishing oils I washed the surfaces to be covered with Dawn.

After rinsing and drying here she is all clean, polished, and sealant free (at least the front section). Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the paint needed some touch ups. There was some time spent with touch up paint and some wet sanding.

The chosen film is Avery Dennison Nano Fusion. Here are a few photos of Matt from Shades installing the film.

Here it is in the sun for final inspection and a bit of curing time.

I don?t have any really good after shots because the sun was going down, but the film looks great. I retreated a few areas with Powerlock and treated the film with Blackfire Wet Diamond Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax with acrylic polymers. (ya, the old stuff. I still have a few tubs to use)

My hat goes off to Matt. There are some screwy curves on the front and they are all covered with film. He did a great job.

Enjoy! Thanks for reading.
