Ive recently been pretty busy with details and have put most together in a gallery which I have posted at the end of this post. Below are 2 in particular:

1990 BMW E30 M3. This car belongs to a local BMW fanatic who owns a total of 4 M3s across every generation ( (2) E30 M3, (1) E36 M3 Race Car, (1) E46 M3 ) this one being his Driving Education Events (not wheel to wheel racing) car that although wearing original paint has a race-built, high-compression 3.2L 6-Cylinder among a slew of other modifications:

Process was:

1) Mothers Gold Class Wash

2) ClayMagic clay

3) PowerGloss/RMG Mix (70:30) via Rotary @ 1600rpms on Yellow Cut-Pad

4) Polish Removed with OCW

5) Waxed with Nattys Blue

6) Trim cleaned/treated with Pre-voc AIO

7) Tires dressed with Meguiars Hot-Shine Aerosol

2005 Silver-Grey BMW E46 M3. This car belongs to another local client and although a street car, it is heavily modified with software, new differential, shifter, headers, wheels, suspension, etc. This car was last detailed November 20th and was at that time clayed, polished and then sealed with OCW.

*The trunk was repainted (actually its an aftermarket BMW CSL trunk) and done badly at that...thats why the lines look as they do..*

Process Was:

1) Mothers Gold Wash

2) Tires Dressed with Meguiars Insane Shine Aerosol

3) Wheels sealed with AquaWax

4) He had hit something on the highway which required HTEC EC on a cut-pad to remove (Rotary @ 1700 rpms)

5) Paint Cleaned with ClearKote Vanilla Moose

6) Sealed with AquaWax

7) Final Wipe-Down with PB Spray 'n' Gloss

The rest of my recent details (12 in all) can be found at:Rennlist Member Gallery :: Detailing Portfolio

The RG4's are very nice on the E46 but the E30 is the one that really does it for me.

Does the RMG soften up the PG enough that you are able to go straight from the compound w/ cut pad on the rotary to your LSP without problems or was there another step in there?

Nice! but ooooff, I'd be pissed if my trunk was aligned like that lol:nervous:

That E30 M3 w/ the built V6 has got to be a blast on a road course, any idea how much he has invested? I never thought about dropping a built 6 into the E30....hmmm making me think of another race car lol.

When mixed 70:30 I find it offers the perfect cut while not inducing any/excessive marring. After the PG:RMG stage I applied a coat of Meguiars #7 Glaze, but that would have done nothing to remove any marring regardless. I am slowly becoming an EC/OP convert on the rotary, but I still find myself reaching for the PG:RMG pretty often.

Thats generally the problem when companies make a "mold of a mold": Essentially this company used the OEM CSL trunk in a mold and copied it for their mold..its never going to be as accurate as the OEM piece. He actually told me last night that after the winter he plans to buy and install the OEM Trunk (big $$) to eliminate the fitment issues and redo the paint.

The E30 engine-bay will swallow damn near any motor (Ive seen them stuffed with V12s before)...the straight-6 swap into an E30 is SUPER-WELL documented and has been done tons of times. I dont know exact figures but figure:

E30 M3= $15k for a good example

3.2 6cylinder= $4k

Building said 3.2= $5k

Suspension, Roll Bar= $2200

Gauges, Timing Devices= $1000 (He has SPA Digital Gauges = $300+ per gauge)

Wheels, Tires, Brakes, Etc= $3000

So add that all together and you get ~$30k into it. Im sure my figures arent exact, and you could obviously sell older parts (like the original S14 4-Cylinder) to recoup some of the costs.

I will say that I have a high-compression 3.2L in my E36 M3 built by the same engine builder as the engine in this E30 (my motor puts out nearly identical numbers of 250+ whp) and this E30 feels quite a bit faster than my car as a result of weight and the E30 being a more visceral car in general.

Disclaimer:***The owner is a friend of mine/customer of the company I work for (BMW Aftermarket) so its not as if I was driving/beating on his car without his knowledge...in fact, he encourages it***

I'll have to give it a whirl. I'm so hooked on the finish that I get with PO85RD and a finishing pad that I have a hard time leaving it out even though sometimes I'm sure that I can....now I've got to go order more RMG!

Im actually thinking of picking up some 106FF or BlackFire SRC. Funny you should mention you love the Menzerna line!

Amazing work! Do you have any information of the November detail of the E46?

I actually remembered that the car was first detailed by me 10/15 (pre-rotary purchase) which included:

1) Mothers Wash

2) Claymagic ClayBar

3) "Pink Moose" (VM/RMG 50:50 Mix) via PC White Pad

4) Spit Shined/Removed with AquaWax

5) LSP was OCW

Then the car was again detailed by me on 11/20 before the car went into temporary storage (the weather has been so crazy, he just couldnt leave it in storage on the nice days. ):

1) Mothers Wash

2) Klasse AIO via PC on White Pad

3) OCW to spit-shine/remove AIO

4) Topped with Nattys Blue Paste Wax

The car doesnt really need to be detailed as often as the client wants, but every time he brings the car in, he loves to talk about the process and loves to see the paint transformed via different products. When I first detailed the car in October there were only very fine swirls and slight marring which the "Pink Moose" took care of no problem. Since then its been just cleaning and sealing it against the NE Salt and crappy winter roads. The reason the car was in pretty good shape in October was that the bodyshop who installed/painted the trunk has an exceptionally good detailer on staff who wheeled the car out ~8 months ago and the car wasnt subject to much washing/marring from then through October.

Thanks Phil and everyone else for the good words..Its always appreciated.
