'13 ZR1 full correction, coating, and a follow-up touch up visit

I was contacted by the owner of this brand new ZR1 after he took delivery of the car. There were a number or swirls and RIDS on the car and the owner had marked the location of many of them with blue painter's tape. After 2 days of chasing RIDS, the car was flawless and then coated with Optimum's Opti-Guard on all paint and trim, and CQuartz on the glass.

A couple months later I was asked to come back to correct some new issues, but I'll cover that later.



As I arrived....unfortunately the owner had the car baking out in the sun on a very hot morning.

Some of the issues...

The carbon fiber was in the typical fashion I've come to expect from manufacturers....regardless of make.

Correction was all finished but the sun would be setting before the coating could be applied, so I took sun shots after correction was finished.

Getting the car rinsed down to remove any and all compounding dust from all the cracks and crevices.

Fast forward a couple months.... I get a call from the owner saying there are spots on the car and that he had unfortunately deeply scratched the hood trying to wipe off an etch mark from "something". So I came back to to see what could be done.



As I arrived....again...

Bugs...this car gets driven, and driven hard.

The offending issue...where the owner had rubbed the car too hard trying to remove an etching mark.

The factory spoiler was replaced and repainted as there was a defect in the original. Light correction was needed as was coating the new piece.

After a wash, here is a better look at the rub mark, and a good long sweeping RID right through it.

These were the mystery water spots.... Since the owner uses the proper 2 bucket method and floods the paint and its always parked inside it wasn't immediately apparent. However since he uses the car to commute to Silicon Valley, I asked about the parking situation there. He mentioned there was a mobile wash guy that does vehicles there but he has never used them. I asked if he had watched them work and he said he had. He confirmed my suspicion of a pressure washer. Just a little bit of wind and water with heavy mineral content could easily leave spots like this. And sure enough they were covering the whole car. A very light polish took all the spots right off the paint and glass. Paint did not need re-coating, but the glass was recoated.

Opti-Guard is very durable. A light polishing will not hurt it.
