Technician`s Choice Tech582

There's a guy on AGO who swears by the TEC582 and also buys it by the gallon. The other one getting a lot of buzz is the Feynlab Hybrid Ceramic Detailer.

So I got to use this a few times, it really reminds me of FK425, not super slick when first applied, but once cured it gets nice and slick. It seems to have a balanced look. I can't say I'm head over heels after first use, but it does smell really good, like a pina colada. I got rid of FK425 out of my stash because it didn't do anything amazingly, it was just a mid pack performer. I'm hoping as I use this some more it has some standout functionality, otherwise I have a gallon to use up somewhere...lol.

Dan, I cut it 1:1 (with dist water). I find the biggest impact to be on cars that don't have any sort of protection. It really boosts the gloss after a routine wash. The owners always comment on how much better it looks.

I tried how it does on fading hard plastic trim vs my favorite spray wax, OCW, and it did surprisingly well. I think that darkening effect translates into pop on less than well maintained paint.

Just a quick update, I'm really liking this stuff. It is just soooo slick, I don't think there is anything else close.

I had some tree sap hit the car pretty good and it literally just wiped of like it landed on a Teflon lined nonstick pan. Crazy.

Looks wise, it's very reflective, not deep or really rich, just like a mirror.

Thanks for the report- I may have to try that one.

Dan- Q about your take on the FK425: Could you expand on "..it didn't do anything amazingly, it was just a mid pack performer...",

I guess I don't get how some other QD would be better, what "better than FK425" would constitute, and what your preferences are.

I use QDs primarily as Drying Aids, occasionally using them for spot-cleaning, though I seldom bother with that on vehicles wearing FK1000P. But then, I probably use SprayWaxes at least as often for Drying Aids, and IUDJ for the spot-cleaning, so yeah I could probably get by without *any* QDs, but gee I have gallons of 'em...

As for "fringe productlines", I just KISS by not buying them unless I have a very good reason. No celebrity/automaker-label stuff, no mystery-source stuff, nothing much new at all unless I run into something that I'm certain I can somehow improve upon. Though I did buy a bunch of GG's Ceramic stuff just as a way to pique my interest in doing a proper Detail of the Chevy Sonic.

Chemical Guys waterless wash is pretty good for bird bombs. I did have some serious bird crap that wouldn't come off. I resorted to Sprayway glass cleaner, mf towel and a plastic interior trim tool.

I wish I could offer more, but FK425 wasn't any slicker than Optimum instant detailer, it didn't look better either. Any spray wax outlasted it. I never used it on a dirty car, so I can't comment on how it cleaned. I bought a bottle of it and tried so many times to like it.

Since you have so much product, the only reason to consider Tec would be if you had to have the slickest qd possible.

Dan- OK, thanks for the info. If I ever do run out of QDs I'll have some new choices to consider!

Setec- Yeah, a Chevy Sonic! I have a *GREAT* tech at the Chevy dealer five minutes away; I simply love the simple/functional interior with limited Tech and heated cloth seats, and I actually prefer its appearance over any other car of its type. No, I'm not blind to its limitations and yes, I wish it had 400HP and AWD, but that's not how they built 'em. And FWIW, Accumulatorette, who can drive whatever she wants, simply loves it, so... OK. For something that cost pocket-change, it's [freakin'] great.

Setec- It's hard to keep up with Yours Truly's, uhm...accumulating. The Sonic was a spare dog-hauler that just sat there unused on its Battery Tender until the A8 got totaled.
