your opinion

If you want to make a big mess and make more work for yourself then go ahead. If your going to take it out of the vehicle and soak it, then a pressure washer would help.

Ummmm yeah . . . I don't think power washing the inside of your car would be a good idea. I've heard there's quite a bit of sensitive electronic gear in most interiors.

Seriously though, have you tried cleaning your carpets with an extractor? I'm sure if you don't want to drop the cash on a good one you could likely rent one for an afternoon.

well, you got a point, i didn't think about that, but anyway where do you get an extractor and what is it

Well, you could buy one from one of our great DC sponsors, but they start around $600. I know when I was 15 I certainly didn't have $600. So, I would get out the yellow pages and find your local tool/equipment rental store. Ask for a carpet cleaning machine with an upholstery attachment.

if you have a shop wet/dry vac you could use it as a extractor.

Check out that thread if you have the equip to do it.

If not check the yellow pages for detail shops and bring your car to them. You can get just your carpets shampood for 25-50 bucks if you can find a shop that is in need of work, or someone just starting out.

First saturate the area with a mix of woolite/oxyclean/water from a spray bottle. Then scrub, scrub, scrub with a carpet brush. Rinse with a sponge and clear water, rinsing the sponge frequently. Repeat til clean.

You can actually do this procedure without the shop vac, but the vac makes the job a little less messy and a whole lot easier.

You can get this at Ace Hardware for around 50 bucks.

I have in the past used a presure washer on floor mats ... with much success (they were my own factory ford mats!

The results were excellent the mats came incredibly clean and even removed the stain of a red wine cooler that my ex-girlfriend dropped on the rear floor and hit the seat rail and RED went everywhere.

I don't know how well the matts held up after this due to the fact that I sold the car shortly after. However I think the key is to DRY the carpet with a shop VAC right afterwards.

Now if you were thinking of hopening all 4 doors of your Car truck or whatever you drive and start powerwashing away .. I think you might have problems... You might be able to get away with this for a JEEP ... but in no way shape or form would this be a good idea!

What do you think of pressure washing interior carpet

I think that's a BAD idea. What if you get the electronics and other areas wet that should be kept dry? Several years ago I took a hose to the interior jam area on my front doors. Some water splatter made it's way into my front door speakers and fried them.

then what would you do if the carpet is really bad, i have tried everything?

Chip

You must have a rental place or janitorial supply in your area that might rent them....I rented one for a job when my regular one went down....they are cheap for a weekend and most all places that rent them have the extractor soloution for sale there.....Also the shop vac and woolite is another way to get it done cheaper if that's a concern.
