yellow page advertising

I was thinking about listing an ad in the yellow pages. Nothing to large to start with but something to let folks know that I exist. How many of you guys use this form of advertising and have had success with It?

I’m not a fan of the Yellow Pages for various reasons, if anything list your name and phone# only.

This type of display advertising is the most expensive type of print advertising. This does not mean that you must spend $30,000 per year with large ads in the yellow pages to get results. Sometimes the largest ad will equate to more phone calls, but it usually always comes down to the price you are charging for your product or service. Remember: If consumers are faced with too many choices, then they make decisions based on price alone – not VALUE. And what does every consumer want? VALUE.

If all of the ads in the yellow pages look the same, then why should they pay more for one vs the other? Most people just start calling to get quotes based on their needs (hourly rate, etc) instead of asking specific questions about extra services, etc.

The other down side to yellow page ads are that your competitors are all listed, too so it doesn’t make you stand out very much unless you work on marketing yourself in a different way than your competitors.

My experience with Yellow Pages is that people go down the list till they find the cheapest price. Remember with Yellow Pages..it lasts a year.....you cant change your mind after a few months.

This is a example of the demographics which I market to. I have much more information, where they eat, shop, etc. Do you see what make of cars I put in my add? :think2

No, I'm not a fan of the yellow pages either. Personally, I would much rather use many of the free listings available on the internet. For example, you may want to place a free listing with Verizon; SuperPages.com

I have to say that Yellow Pages do indeed work. Having said that, let's look at the clientel you're after. People that will pay good money to have their car detailed are usually a high-end client and will go quicker to the internet. I have a listing on www.yellowpages.com that covers only my area. From January thru October, the headings of Auto Detailing and Car Wahing & Polishing received over 1400 hits. Admittedly, I only do this on a part-time basis and don't rely on it for a full-time living. What else do I do for a living? I am account rep for AT&T Yellow Pages (formerly SBC). If you give me the area you service, I will find out how many searches were done in YOUR area. You don't need a big expensive ad there, either. I have the least expensive one and there isn't that much competition. I have scheduled 5 cars to do the week after Christmas that people want to give as Christmas presents. I don't advertise ANYWHERE else so virtually ALL my customers come from the online yellow page ad. That is just my two cents worth.

I looked up the numbers for your area and they weren't all that good, to be honest. I did a search for ALL of PA and year to date was only around 6,000 searches. Contrast that with Texas where there were over 21,000 year to date. Maybe you should consider getting a web site and working with a Search Engine provider. Sorry the news wasn't any better.
