where to purchase high grit sand paper

I think i a fair amount of experience in wetsanding, most cars that i wetsaded had been freshly painted , so that made it real easy for the scratches to buff out, and normally id use 1200 grit, 1500 and buff it out with 3m perfect it 3000 .

Now for those of you who have seen my roadmaster, I had painted it my self but got lazy and didnt wetsand it in time and waited close to a year. I recently wetsanded the hood with 2000grit sand paper, and it took me total of id say atleast 8hours to buff out the freaking thing

i used megs foam cutting pad and used megs 84, also tried 3mperfect it 3000. THe clear coat was hard as cement.

n e way, long story short, in order for me to wetsand the whole car with relative ease, i would like to purchase higher grit sand paper

so my plan would look like this

1500 --2000--3200--4000-6000 etc this should by far make it easier to buff out.

Are there n e webiste that you guys can reccomend ? n e tips etc are also appreciated

P.s

i have the pics on my digi cam and will upload them soon for yall to see

thanks

I don't think you should need to go past #3000. You may also find that you can get rid of the scratch you have with a heavier cut compound (like Meguiar's #85) and a wool pad. Then you'd follow with a foam pad and a lighter cut product to remove the swirls left by the wool.

The other thing I'd recommend is switching to Meguiar's Unigrit papers. They leave a more uniform scratch pattern that's easier to remove. They're available up to #3000 and you can get them at any shop that sells Meguiar's professional products.

If you want to go finer than that you can get Mirka Abralon pads up to #4000.

These people https://www.micro-surface.com/default.cfm?page_id=1 have an amazing variety of exotic abrasive materials up to 12000 grit. Their online ordering process is primitive at best and may require inordinate patience until it actually accepts the order. They also have fairly high shipping charges ($10 min) that they don't tell you about until the last minute. However, they have some unique products that may be just what you're looking for.

Thanks guys,

I think i know what the problem was, the megs polishing pad(which ive had for a while) was worn out, so thats y it wasnt performing like it was supposed to.

So i go to my local paint supply shop and ask them what they would reccomend, after telling them all that i had done, the manager told me I might need new pads and she hands me EDGE 8" pads, green blue and yellow..FOR FREEEE :grinno:

So i come home and with my rotary running at around 1000 rpms, it was so easy to get those minor scratches out.

U know, sometimes its the little things that make the difference, i knew my previous polishing pad was goin bad but i had no clue how bad it was when i used the new ones

And as far as wetsanding goes, i think im gonna go 1500---2000---2500---3000, this should make it easier to buff out

thanks for all the help guys
