When is it too cold (what degree do you not polish/wax)?

I am looking to polish, klasse and wax this weekend but it is going to be mid 50's to 60 as a high for the temp.

Is this going to make it hard to detail, will certian applications not bond, become hard to remove?

Basically I am trying to weigh out my options and figure if I should go through with the major detail this weekend or just wait for another day. Last week we had weather in the 70's in Boston, and that was in November, I wish I had the Royal Velvet towels I bought on-line then. :(

Anything above freezing should be okay. 40 may be as low as you would want to go though. Some people keep their wax in the fridge. 50' s and 60's are good detailing temps. Living in the North I have detailed many times at these temps and had great results.

Sounds good.

I JUST remembered, the towels are coming in today and I forgot to leave a note on the door to leave them there ARGH, this stinks.

Going to had back now to make sure they will leave them there and make some pj's for lunch.:bounce

For storage, fridge is okay for wax, but for use, warm it up first or you'll find it difficult to work with.

50-60 degrees is plenty warm to detail. You might want to work in the sun. Note the hazing problem people have been having with KLASSE though in other posts....could be due to the cold temps. I would let it dry a while before buffing off...

Looks like I am going to have a nice weekend (we'll see).

DK, so if the sun is not too hot, it is okay to work in it? I usually like the shade because our water is so hard I have to get it all off or it leaves spots...

I guess it is a judgement call, whether the sun is too hot or not.

When it is 65 degrees out, I think I would want to work in the sun. :D

I have a black car. I have found all sealants or waxes apply better when the vehicle is cold, not warm or hot. Smearing and hazing seems to occur when the metal is warm. Even in 50 degree weather sun heats the metal up so fast with a black vehicle. Garage, outside early or late in the day works best for me.

if it was 55 degree's I don't think working in the sun would effect anything. If the surface of the car is hot, I would move into the shade while applying carnubas or KLASSE. I always detail in the sun, no matter how hot it is.

Do you do this on purpose, or just because the sun is big and pretty much everywhere?

The sun really helps to show you spots you missed or still need to be wiped off. This way you are seeing how your car will look to everyone else when you are driving.

I would love to see you guys detail your cars in the sun in my area. You would lose 10 pounds easily and the Klasse and carnaubas would be pure hell to work with. Pure hell! Not only that but you wouldn't even need a quick detailer to help in the buffing out process. You could just stand over the area you're working on and let your sweat act as the quick detailer. Hehe! Its quite true though. Even in the evening, its still too hot to work in the sun.

I detail cars in the Texas sun (my detailing business is mobile) all summer long, and far too often, there is no shade to be found. I detail black cars at straight up noon, because I have to! No problem at all, and after detailing for 8-10 hours a day, I usually skate 15-22 miles at the local park. No biggie, I grew up in Phoenix, so while Dallas is more humid, the sun is less direct and even if it does touch on 105-108 in the summer, humidity or not, it isn't close to 118-122 like it has been in Phoenix.

now that the new BF is out...you can stay out there til its 480 degrees....or better yet...detail the next shuttle just before the launch...they wont need those shields to protect them from the heat....:D....just a disgruntled northerner...:p
