Whats up with GM's chameleon paint?!?

joyriide1113

There is no cure!
Whats up with GM new chameleon paint on their trucks and suv's? I'm assuming its GM's factory paint as I have only seen it on Gm vehicles (cadillac, avalanch, tahoe, ect.).

Neighbor is driving a Cadillac Escalade in this color. It looks soo tacky, not even mentioning the confusion on which selant/wax I would use with it.

What do you guys think?

You're gonna need to show us some pics so we know exactly what color you're talking about.... I have no clue as to which it could be.

I assume you mean that your neighbor has an '07 Escalade, the new re-designed one?

I know what color your talking about. I almost bought a silverado in that color instead of my red one. Just treat it like you would any other paint job.

I wouldn't call it a true chamelon paint job either. If i remember correctly it only flip flops from blue to green. Kinda like the ford sonic blue, it flips from blue to purple depending on the light.

No, Im not gonna detail it, I was just using it as an example. But in my opinion its looking kinda tacky. Especially on a ""luxury"" vehicle.

Thats not factory. Thats not even close to what the factory gm chameleon paint looks like.

That chameleon paint job is ugly.

This is the actual gm chameloen, its the only one i could find, so far. It flips from blue to green.

Oh jeez... I think I'm gonna be sick! That's nasty looking, and definitely not factory.

I wouldn't call that blue/green TD posted a chameleon either, really. I think that's called a "tintcoat" paint, but I'm not certain of that.

i have never seen that color on a g.m. from the factory in 12 years. that is definetly an aftermarket paint job. i think that is one of the ugliest colors i have ever seen. i hope that a woman drives that.:stick

Yeah thats an aftermarket paint job. The brand that pops into my head is Dupont's Chromalusion. When it first came out less than 10 years ago it was something like $1000 for a quart of the paint or something like that. IIRC a member on here has a Mitsi Evo painted like that.

THATS IT! You're right its not the one I posted, now that I look at it. But thats it. I've seen it on avalanches, yukon, denali's. escaldes, EXT'S, ect.

Yep i believe Budman has nailed it. I was racking my brain trying to recall the name of the product then read his post and low and behold there it is. It has dropped down to about 500 a pint now i think. I know it isnt cheap stuff that's for sure. And it is just like any other clear coat paint job.

The color is really nice. I work for a grocery store and one of our little specialities is we load up the gorceries for you. you pull up and we load htem. I loaded up a 2004 (I think, maybe an 05) Gran Prix in that blue. It was nice. I told the owner to take care of it, so hopefully they will get a little into detainligng.
