waxed my windscreen...

when i was detailing my car the other day, i decided to wax the windscreen too, to make it nice and shiny of course.



it rained today for the first time since i did this and now the wipers are really noisy and chattery :(



is there something i can do to the windscreen to fix this problem? it is going to drive me nuts otherwise!

I would wash it off with Simple Green (or other dishwater soap), clay the windshield and clean it further with Klasse AIO or equivalent. That would give you protection like RainX.
 
Agreed with Chut and Krim, but IMO the whole purpose around wax/Rain-X a windshield is so that you really don't have to use your wipers as the rain beads off very easily.



I use AIO and rarely use the wipers at all.
 
Wax will do that. I have tried all the windshield specific products and nothing has been better for "me" than FK425.
 
I'd just keep the Rain-X for the side and rear windows, and leave the windshield alone....a decent set of rubbers on the wipers will be just as good as any fancy products IMO :xyxthumbs
 
I find Liquid Glass to be great on the windshield. Rain-X and other waxes seem to build up on the blades and cause them to chatter. Not so with Liquid Glass. I've fallen out of favor with LG for use on the paint but am keeping it just for the windshield.
 
yea, products like rain-x, or aquapel work best on glass - also, most spray sealants/sealants work well on glass as well.



I never found a good ol' carnauba-based wax to ever work well on glass at all. You need something super slippery and "pure" like a sealant to do the trick on glass... which is what Aquapel, Rain-X, AIO, Aquawax (which does work! I've used it before on my front windshield...), etc all are!

and make sure to clean the wipers thoroughly at every wash... at lower speeds not many products will help, you'll have to use your wipers... and with product on the glass, it is possible for things to "build up" on the wipers (although I have never experienced this myself). Just clean it to make sure... besides, even if there's no residue, you'll be surprised at the dirt that comes off anyway :soscared:

....white vinegar would be a good cleaner as well for a) removing the wax, and b) cleaning the blades
 
all fixed! used some kitchen benchtop cleaner and then used white vinegar on the windscreen and blades and worked a treat :) the vinegar gave made it very clear with no streaks too!

So you guys are waxing your windshields too? Hmm... I haven't done that yet. What is the benefit of this, to make the water bead off or what?

Protecting against water spot etching, other things... and mostly to provide a safer driving experience because at speed rain water will bead and fly off the glass, negating the need for wipers.
