Water...

You should learn to plan ahead.

Make a list of all of the supplies and products that you use when you clean, polish and wax your own car. They will usually be the same supplies and products you will need when you get to the customer's house. It is your responsibility to always have everything you need when you get to the job.

I guess the other thing is you could do if there's no place to connect to a hose is to carry a couple jerry jugs full of water and use a product like Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine or Quick Easy Wash or DP Rinselss Wash & Shine, etc. I finally decided to try out the Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine and I washed one small car (Toyota Matrix) and a F250 truck with just 4 gallons of water. The phantom grey Toyota that I washed showed almost no further signs of marring or halo scratches, etc. The F250 was already swirled up pretty good, so it was too hard to tell how much if any further scratching occured. This weekend I'm doing a S500 and an Excursion and I plan to use ONRW&S again. Next week I might be doing a Bentley Continental GT if things work out and I'll probably use ONRW&S again. It's a pretty neat product, but it's still very new to me.

Sorry to Hi-jack, but the only issue I have is cleaning tires/wheels. Without a hose it just takes too long! If there isn't water anywhere nearby (at apartment complex), what are your alternatives?

I don't do enough serious detailing, nor do I have the funds to purchase a water tank.

spray on a wheel cleaner, dump a gallon on each wheel....you can buy distilled water for like a buck at the store and take those, or just wash with ONR filled buckets with a sponge the best you can....

I use a 225 Gallon tank in my van, although a 100gallon would be MORE than enough for 2 or 3 cars. I use that, with a gravity-feed Pressure-Washer (Karcher from Costco), all I need from the customer is electricity.... Which I have a few 100' extension cords just in case!

I don't know how many times it has been easier to wash cars out front of a building with an extension cord running in than trying to find space near a faucet! As well, most people have crappy water compared to mine!
