please help!!

my hood is full of ugly water spots!

the question is... what is the best and SAFEST (non-abressive) way to remove them by hand??>

thnaks!!

Have you tried the basic vinegar method? Just use full-strength white vinegar with a sponge and that usually gets a lot of them out.

You'll obviously need to do a follow-up wash afterwards.

by hand....COLORX from megs....

if its really etched only a rotary is gonna do it...the paint has to be leveled out...yep it can be an ugly situation....

by hand u may only be able to minimize em.....then use a polish / filler like #81 hand polish....then wax.....sucks if ur hood got etched...

sprinklers huh?....

One Grand Special Touch is the best, non-abrasive cleaner I've ever used for water spots. It works particularly well on crusty, white, etched-in water spots....

Here's the promo:

One Grand Special Touch is a non-abrasive cleaner that is compatible with factory clear coats. It eliminates light oxidation, tree sap, water spots, and miscellaneous fallout without harming the finish.

yes vinegar will remove the hard waterdeposits , but not etching .....

the colorx can be had at walmart or any auto place just about....

again, by hand u will only minimze the reflection from the etching.....only a rotary can level the paint finish....

i really dont think theres a stronger cleaner out there than colorx....

it is best to immediatly remove water spots with a QD before they dry so your paint doesnt get etched....

i noticed the spots this morning... so i dont know if they are sopts or etching... i do want to start with the mildest thing possible... so how mild is colorex??

thanks!

megs #9 removed all of my water spots...but they werent etched...i think colorx is a little more gentle and has some wax in it

i do have some # 9... but i would like something a litlle less abrassive... it looks like i will try some vinegar first!! if thaht doesnt work i'll give colorx a try

success!!!!!!!!

i tried the vinegar... it worked perfectly!! no ecthing, just water deposits i guess!!

thanks for the tip

I own a dark green Chevy truck and I have the worst case of water spots on the hood and the truck always has a film on it when I towel dry it. I use an mf from wallyworld and nxt car wash that doesn’t seem to take all the dirt off the truck

I also use an inline water filter for rv's to take some of the minerals out of the water help

Make sure that the towels haven't been washed using fabric softener or bleach. Fabric softener leaves a residue on the towels.

If you've got hard water (most of us do), the water spot problem on dark cars is a b***h to solve.

You also might try a different car wash.
