Used Simonize Wheel

Guys my name is Shane and I just joined Autopia! I am coming to you guys for some advice. I was cleaning/washing my car and decided to clean my wheels because they were really dirty. I grabbed Simoniz Wheel Restorer from my dad's cabinet not paying attention and thinking that it was a wheel cleaner. It is an extremely old product. Well to make a long story short I have sealed the dirt onto the wheel and I don't know how to remove it. I have tried Eagle One all wheel and tire cleaner but it did not work. The Simoniz can says that it is permanent protection!!!!! what did I use!!!

Please help, Thanks in advance.

Shane

I'm afraid I can't help you because I've never heard of it. Nothing's permanent and can be removed with a fine abrasive polisher...

Kind of in the same boat but here is what I would suggest. Get a good all purpose clean like simple green, or the likes of that. Mix that with water 50/50 to start. Wet the tire and apply the APC soloution, and let dwell for a minute or so. Then with a good stiff plastic brush, use that on the tire and rinse. If that doesn't take it all off use the APC at 100% with the brush.

I doubt that anything you put on the tire is stuck on and won't come off

I should have known better than to just grab some old can and start spraying away. It seems almost like a clear coat type spray for wheel restoration or maybe a sealant, not sure. Thanks for the quick reply I will try the simple green. I tried to google the product and couldn't find it, that shows you how old it is lol. Probably from before the beginning of the google age!

What type of wheels are they?

If their clear coated then use a Mothers Power Ball and some polish to quickly dispatch this unwanted protection.....

I think he is talking about the wheel, not the tire ;)

OP, I would follow Bobby's advice with the powerball and polish :bigups

Welcome to AutopiaForums. If it is a some type of paint then the only way to really remove it may be to lightly polish it off, like Bobby suggested.

Thanks for all of the replies. The wheels are bmw alloys, I'm guessing that means they are aluminum? The dirt is actually protected by this coat. What type of polish do you guys recommend? By using the polish method will I be removing the actual coat on the wheels themeselves?

It's an Acrylic lacquer and it should say on the can if still readable. Polishing will be the only remedy. Then you will want to follow with a good wheel sealant like WheelWax immediately

Okay guys I am going to buy the polish and Mother's power ball, which polish do you guys recommend? Also should I get the Powerball mini or the Powercone? Also where is the best place to buy them? Sorry for all the questions, this will be the first time I am attempting something like this.

They are available right here at Autopia Care Care. The type of ball really depends on your wheels. Have you done this to all 4 wheels?

I'm sorry on my OP I was thinking tire not rim itself...That said before you start buying all kinds of product can you post a few pics of these rims?

The rims you have are anodized and most likely clear coated. That said polishing would be the trick, but I would like to see some pics if you think it will show up in them

Unfortunately yes, I sprayed the stuff on all 4 wheels! I will post pictures of the wheels later today before buying anything. I really appreciate all of the comments/replies so far.
