Today's Details - v. Ghetto Water Setup, Dakota, A4, Integra

First things first...I had to detail this 2003 Dakota Crew Cab this morning and needed to bring my own water. This is the first time I've done an onsite QEW so I had to figure out how to get the damn water there.



Using a little bit of brain power, I decided to grab a big cooler, fill it up and put it in the back seat. I then used the drain plug to fill up the buckets.



I needed 6 gals total... 2 gals in each bucket for QEW and 2 gals for my carpet cleaning solution.



Although this may be ghetto, it worked great and didn't spill

On to the 1st detail...



2003 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab...Damn this is a cool truck. I love the color combo, it's got a V8, exhaust, tinted windows, rain guards, brush bars, fog lights, etc.



I loved the sound of the exahust but its already rusted out (hence why it's dirty lookin in the pics) :nexweiss



Anyways, this thing was a freakin mess for an '03. The owner has a dog she brings to work everyday that comes in the truck, so dog hair everywhere. For the interior I did:



-Oxy solution on the carpets, seats, and door fabric

-Woolite mixture to clean vinyl, rubber, and plastic

-303 Aerospace to protect/dress the vinyl, rubber, and plastic

-Gliptone Glass Cleaner on the glass

For the exterior, it needed plenty of TLC. My final processes were:



-QEW

-Rims, tires, and wells pretreated with Simple Green, then QEW'd

-VM via Rotary @ 1000 rpm using LC Polishing Pad

-EX-P by hand



-VM on lighting and chrome

-Rain-X on glass, then Gliptone Glass Cleaner to clean them

-Armor All on Tonneau Cover, wheel wells, tires, and plastic trim

Now my car just went through 3 days of rain, but when it was still wet this morning I went to the Dakota detail on an open road at about 100mph for a minute or so...This left all but the back bumper rather clean.



I was pretty upset with the pictures the other day of my car, so these should make up for it . Oh BTW, the owner of the Dakota loved my car, but she thought it was a Camaro :rofl since it's completely de-badged.

Last for today - 2000 Audi A4



I saw Scottwax's post last night with his blingin example of an M3 so I showed my friend with a silver A4. He loved it soo much that I told him I'd do his real quick today when I got home. He brought the car over all washed and everything. My final processes were:



-VM via Rotary @ 1000 rpm with a LC polishing pad

-EX-P by hand



-AA on Tires

BTW: After talking to him and showing him these products, he will be purchasing some VM, EX-P, Trade Secret, and a PakShak MF Kit.

Very nice work! And on some crazy rstrictions there! I always plan to head to the local coin-op with two empty buckets and two gallons of water to a wash and then use their pressure rinse and no spotting rinse, but till haven't done it. I can't recall, do you use an extractor? Great work on both. That gray I'm sure is lifeless without your touch.

Side note: On my car's forum, there's a member who crashed his Six through a fence, trying not to spill his buckets for a wash he was doing down the street. Could have been avoided if he just took gallon bottles.

There was just no hose hookup whatsoever so I had to QEW. I am forced to do the DIY car wash up at college every once and a while to remove all the crap from the undercarriage but other than that I try to stay away



I use a 5.0hp Shop Vac with the filter removed to extract the cleaning solution from the upholstery. The lines are from the attachment I have. As far as the lifeless-ness, yeah it was pretty beat up...

I know you use the Makita all the time, and I have started to use it as well - so far on three cars without incident.



However, I find I have to mask off all the trim and (believe it or not) I use Saran Wrap on the windows to catch the sling!! Clings tight, easy to manipulate and cheap.



Do you need to do any trim / window protecting?



Do you do the whole exterior with the Makita or do you have to switch to the PC or your hand with tighter spots?

I took that little tip from you . I stopped using my Bissel extractor (too much room in my little car) and just did the ShopVac deal...Works great for me.



I pretty much stick with VM or #80 and they wipe off everything pretty well. When I don't use those I have to be cautious of sling. When I do heavy polishing, I tape off everything since I'm using pretty heavy pressure/speeds, but with VM I don't find it necessary.



I haven't had a problem with the Makita for the exterior. Tight spots get done by hand, but there aren't many of them. I use smaller pads than normal (7.5" overall instead of 8.5). I think that helps too.

man i wish i could get up to 100 mph to blow dry clean my car.



i guess if you squint your eyes, and look at it from a certain angle.....your car looks like.......... an integra. i think she was trying to be nice.

kb798: That was considered a "Full Detail" compared to the "Ultimate Detail" (clay and full swirl removal). I charged $130 for everything I did.

My friend called me up outta nowhere when the sun was going down and was like "I need these products (VM, EX-P, TS, and MF's) ASAP. My car looks freakin amazing." If I have time today, I will top it with another coat of EX-P.
