Testing Meguiar`s ENDURANCE Tire Gel

Don

Well, since I broke down and gave the car a regular wash today, I decided to scrub the new Falkens ... not that much scrubbing was needed for new tires, and try out a new (to me) tire dressing, Megs Endurance.

Following the directions for a more muted shine, I wiped ... ok, slopped the gel on to get in in those wonderful grooves tire makers put in the sidewalls, then waited about 1/2 hour and wiped off the excess. Originally I took a pic with the flash on, but then it showed the tread of the tire and the fender well (which are not cleaned and dressed) so, no flash.

Let`s see how long this holds up through this weather.

As a side note, what would be the best applicator for the Endurance? Right now, I`m using a MF covered foam pad and I feel it leaves a lot to be desired, there has to be something better.

I was thinking about a cheapie paint brush from Wally-World, but this would be better. B)

Endurance is definitely worthy of its name, it does stay around for a long time. For me the application and cleanup negate any time savings of endurance. I finally caved and bought some tuffshine, going to see if this saves any time over a regular water based dressing.

Dan - if you like rich, dark tires look elsewhere due to tuffshine not IMHO delivering on that front. It does make it easier to clean but I have found with my wife curbing the tires it does not last that long :(

Don, I`ve been using the Endurance off and on for a couple years. I have two forms of it. It does last, maybe longer than most other products out there.

I`m pretty good with not curbing, but I love that dark black licorice like look. Ugh, I guess I`ll have to get the tires as scrubbed as I can and be happy with that. My current fav is AA Extreme tire gel. I definitely lasts through rains while parked, but two or three drives in the rain and it is gone. Nice thing is that re-applying and cleanup are very easy.

In my opinion, Endurance has a very, shiny wet look for about 2 -3 days, depending on the weather, but then its "shine/wet-look" dissipates and you are left with as someone above best put it "black licorice look". As the name implies, it last (Endures) for about 7-10 days, depending the weather again. For an over-the-counter product its not bad, it`s just not my cup of tea for shinier tires "look" than most car clear coat paints that are waxed/sealed/coated (at least of a couple of days)
My applicator of choice: Eagle One Tire Sponge Applicators available at AutoZone (yellow backing with curved black/dark grey foam). Just be aware that on nubby truck tires, these applicators will get eaten alive and "shread/crumble" when used to try to apply the tire shine into the blocky tread lugs on the sidewall. That may also apply to winter-spec tires with their "blocky" tread patterns.
