Spray & Rinse On Pontoons?

Whether to put this here or in the Marine Detailing forum was not a clearcut decision. It's definitely a Marine question, but I was concerned it might be overlooked there.

Would Spray & Rinse be a good product to clean uncoated aluminum pontoons? They get an accumulation of crud on them during the summer and I'm not real comfortable with some of the acid based cleaners sold for cleaning pontoons. Because of that, I just pressure wash them at the end of the season. They don't look great, but they are in the water and I can't see them. The not so clean pontoons do affect performance, but with my 40 hp Evinrude, 17 mph is all I get anyway. We just cruise with the pontoon boat, rarely getting above idle speed. If I feel the need for speed, we take the run-about. :)

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't be ok...but maybe just try a small test spot, see how it does, make sure it doesn't do any harm...

If I had read the information on Poorboy's site, I might have found the answer to my question.
It says:
"This product can be used on clearcoated, painted, chrome, and even plastic hub caps, but should NOT be used on uncoated wheels without dilution and spot testing".

Kind of like Stephan said, try a test area first.
Right now, I'm thinking I'll skip the Spray & Rinse and staying with my pressure washer routine.

Charles you can definitely use it to clean the pontoons, the reason it says not to use it on uncoated aluminum is not for safety reasons, it is because it would take away the shine from let's say a wheel and then the wheel would have to be completely polished out. As you are not looking for looks, and only to clean, then Spray & rinse would be a great option to deep clean the pontoons and save a lot of time and effort ;)

You should have a DC pontoon boat party. We could all chip in and clean, then you could take us all out on the water. :bigups

:D

what about lunch
don't forget other refreshments too
The party sounds like a good idea with just a few qualifications.

1. People aren't expected to work when they are guests.

2. Breakfast, lunch, dinner won't be a problem. My wife usually fixes enough food to feed three times as many guests as we have. In the unlikely possibility of her running out of food, their is a good restaurant at the lake.
One rule only about food. He who complains, cooks! :notme:

3. Non-alcoholic beverages would be available, but booze would be on your own. Having had one family member drink himself to death and another destroy his life and career keeps me from being comfortable supplying the stuff to anyone.
FWIW, Obnoxious drunks are thrown off the dock! :bigups

4. Holidays are not good days to visit. We usually have a houseful at that time and the lake is very crowded.

If the guys out east and down soth are coming Ill be there with some beef and pork, and WILL do the grilling! FOOD My specialty!!!!!! YA BABY!!! FOOD! Get sometime set up with Charles and Ill try my darnedest ro be there!

If you want something to clean aluminum, look into Bio-Kleen Aluma Kleen. Spray it on and hose it off. Leaves a white film over everythign, but once you hit the aluminum with a polish it SHINES!
