Sonus DAS Polisher kit

To start things off, I own a 04 Phantom Black Metallic GTO. Overall the car is in great shape, very few swirls and scratches, but under certain lighting the whole car looks hazed over. I currently have Zaino on the car, and prior to applying the Zaino I used 3m 39009 smr by hand on the whole car.

I definantly do not want to take my car somewhere and risk someone messing up the finish with a buffer, and it seems that the PC is the way to go. That being said, I plan to purchase this kit.

Should I go ahead and purchase the Sonus SFX1, SFX2, and SFX3 with this kit, or is there something else I should be looking at? Will I even need the SFX1? Are there any other pads I should be getting?

Also, would it be ok to go straight from SFX3 to Zaino, or would I even need the SFX3 with Zaino?

I know these are noobieish questions, but I have been searching for the past few hours and still haven't figured anything out.

Thanks in advance

I have the SFX 2 &3.

I like them both, and i dont think there is any reason to get SFX 1.

Ive never used Zaino, but i think it is ok to goto it after the sonus polishes.

I believe than Zaino makes a QD or something to use between coats, and before initially, so if it were me i would use that after the polish.

I would like to add, that you should do a small section and work from the least aggressive method on up to correct what you are seeing.

Yup, the smaller the section the better. A normal hood would be 4 sections.

I would buy the least aggresive polish first with your kit. You will need to polish before Zaino. Use a polishing pad to remove swirls and then check the finish. If there are any hazing issues finish with a finishing pad. I'm not familar with Sonus Polishes, if there are oils all you will have to do is wash it with Z7 before applying Zaino. When you are polishing just make sure polishes break down, another words work them until they either dry or start to dissapear.

Thanks for the advice so far.

So I should probably start with the SFX 2 and the green pad pad and do like 1/4" of the hood. If I do not see any results I should switch to the SFX2 and the orange pad? If I have the results I want after the SFX 2 and the green pad then I switch to the SFX 1 and the blue pad? Then go over the car with the bonnet or can I skip this step?

Also how much of a bottle would I use on the whole car?

How long should it take to do a 1/4 section of the hood?

Is taping off all the trim really necissary?

And lastly, how would I do smaller area's like the spoiler?

I wouldnt use the SFX1 until you have some experience under your belt, it is pretty aggressive.

I have SFX 2, and it removes common type of wash induced problems just fine.

Just up your aggressiveness with the pads, and unless you have a beater that has never seen TLC, a heavy cut pad shouldnt be used, unless you know exactly what, when, how, and why, .

So for example, I could use SFX 2 with the orange pad if I do not see results with the SFX2 and the green pad?

I have found some more useful posts on using a pc for the first time. I do think I will order a few extra pads though.

I am still pretty worried about trying this out on my black car, but everything I read says it is basically foolproof.

Anyone know why the SONUS code will not give a 20% discount at the autopia store?

The promo for Sonus is over.

If using the Sonus 2 I would stick with the Green pad until you have the hang of it. To be honest, unless directed by someone with more experience than I, stick with the Green Pad and Sonus 2.

I have been using the kit for a month or so and like the results.

I too ordered extra pads, you never know!!

Good Luck,

Steve

OOOPPS, sorry forgot to post with last reply.

I used the Sonus 2 and 3, then to Zaino. I used the ZFX with Z5, then to Z2 Pro. Couple of coats of the above, with Z6 in between.

Finally, Z8.

I'm very happy with the results. My truck is a 2000 Super Duty 250, Harvest Gold.

I ordered the kit earlier today.

Anyone have any advice for getting small areas where the whole pad will not be in contact with the paint? (ie: the area between the winshield and doors - a pillar i believe)

I'm not a fan of the Sonus DAS pads. They are fine in terms of their overall quality and I'm very impressed with how strong they attach to your velcro plate, but I believe the PC should be used with something lighter to minimize vibration, like the Sonus SFX pads.
