Shamwow

Has anybody here tried a Shamwow for drying their car, I was just wondering if they work like on tv ??
Not me, but......
Do a Google search on Shamwow and I think you will find it like most TV Infomercial products.
Most comments seem to consider it mediocre at best, a fraud at worst.

If you call them in the next fifteen minutes, they'll give you two - that's right -two Sham...WOWs for the price of one. But wait, there's more. They'll also send you 4 mini Sham...WOWs for absolutley FREE!

They're like a piece of felt. Very absorbent. No real plushness to them, though, so it would likely be a risk for marring if there was to be any dirt blown onto the paint as you were drying.
Although they warn you about knock-offs, you can get "similar" towels for around $1-$3 at various stores (including some buck stores). Typically, they are also sold at state fairs.
There is some difference in quality, but I still wouldn't use it to dry a car that I had recently polished to as near perfection as I am capable of. However, for a daily beater or for the average person that waxes their car once a year (whether it needs it or not), this would be a good item. ($2.50 + S+H each, I guess it wouldn't break too many banks.)
I would use it to soak up spills or for drying the dog without much reservation, though.

I wouldn't use it on my cars but it could come in handy around the house ,I don't know how much they are though.

I would think something like the Absorber would be better for use on cars even if you use it as a blotter. I assume Sham comes from chamois.

From the Merriam Webster Dictionary.
Sham:
1 : a trick that deludes : hoax <feared that the deal was a sham>
2 : cheap falseness : hypocrisy <saw through the hollowness, the sham, the silliness of the empty pageant — Oscar Wilde>
3 : an ornamental covering for a pillow
4 : an imitation or counterfeit purporting to be genuine
5 : a person who shams

Since it doesn't seem to be an ornamental covering for a pillow or a person, definitions 1, 2, or 4 look to be pretty close. :)

OUCH!!! But hey, who am I to argue with Merriam Webster!! :notme::notme:

I knew what Sham means in the dictionary but I considered it a play on words. I do agree the dictionary name seems better. Anything sold through an infomercial or infomercial like manner is by default over priced. How about some mighty putty?

And you are correct about the play on words.
I think the sellers of the ShamWow would prefer people think of Chamois rather than Sham.
For years, we have had a policy in our house that anything merchandised in an infomercial isn't something we purchase. Hey, going to Wal*Mart is bad enough. :D
