If you are a body man or know about it, i would like to know the different types of sandpaper. I always here people talking about using 600 grit and stuff like that, i would just like to know the types of sandpaper, and when to use those types, maybe even how. Thanks:nixweiss :xyxthumbs

For body work you want to use Wet-Dry sandpaper. It's the black sandpaper you see around. It's VERY fine and you use it with water as a lubricant to help wash out the "dust" as you sand to keep the paper from getting clogged.

You can get W-D sandpaper in super duper fine grits such as 2000 and 1500 which are what are used for color sanding and fine scratch removal. The grit on these papers is so smooth it almost feels like regular paper. You can get rid of the scratches put in the paint by these grits by using just a polish compound or swirl remover.

More coarse grits like 1000 and 600 are used for body repair damage and body work and not too much in detailing.

Hope this helps.

If you need to color-sand the finish, you may want to look at Meguiars Uni-Grit paper. Very good for color-sanding.

Now, here's an article on color-sanding for your review:

Read through this first then decide if you need to proceed.
