Sand in washing machine

I just took a load of MF towels out of the washing machine and noticed something gritty on some of the towels. Upon closer inspection, I see some sand in the machine, so of course I am sure there is sand in the towels. Are these toast? Just chuck them? A way to clean them out? Are they salvageable? Probably about $25 worth of towels. Recommendations? Thanks, Rick

What are you saying, that your MF's had sand in them when you washed them? Or that the wife/gf/kids/apparently soon to be dead people washed something sandy in the machine before you got there?

Your call, you should probably toss them, but I would never be able to do that. How about a compromise and use those towels for less critical things like wheels, engine compartment, etc.? After washing them a few more times.

give them one more good cleaning on the longest washing cycle, and then use them for non-paint related tasks.

if their too valuable to throw away, just rewash them twice imo

not sure how many towels were talking here or their quality

Yellow VROOM's. and gray VROOMS..Thanks for the recommendations. I'll probably pull out a magnifying glass and go through every stitch; but will probably just use em as rags now.

I would check that washer and see if it's drain line is clear and operating normally, then wash them again, dry, and INSPECT!

I would wash them a couple more times and relegate them to interior, glass or wheel duty. Just my opinion.

Exactly!

Can someone provide why they couldn't be used at this capacity?

Eh..I think *glass* is about the last thing I'd use 'em on...scratches in glass are generally forever.

I'd probably just relegate them to household use or for undercarriage/etc. duty.

I guess everybody has their own threshold of significance for this stuff, but no way I'd risk marring anything I cared about over ~$25
.

Yep :xyxthumbs I'd see about cleaning out that washing machine properly before I used it for any more detailing textiles.
