RSX Opinions

A local Acura dealer had a bunch of leftover RSX's...I was chewing on it earlier in the year, but they didn't have a color I really wanted. My backup plan was always to reserve a new one (they told me because of leasing issues that usually the current model-year ones were spoken for before they arrived, which is why virtually all the ones on the lot were leftovers).

So anyway, the '05's came out, and I hate the wheels. Since this is a second car, I had intended to get the base car, no leather (basically the only choices you have with this car are color, cloth vs. leather, auto vs. manual, base vs. Type S "race car"). So, since I really like the '03/'04 wheels, they have two '03 leftovers that meet my parameters: a Redondo Red/Cloth, or a Desert Silver/Leather. I don't really like the leather interior, plus it's $1000 extra, but I don't really like the red color...what would you guys do?

PS I did consider buying an '05 and putting '04 wheels on it...but they are $413 each!

How about getting an '05, even if you "hate" the wheels. You could always detail a few cars and save up enough cash to buy a nice set of aftermarket wheels/tires. Just a thought.

Thanks, I can afford to buy the wheels, but I generally like to keep things stock, and I truly LIKE the '02-'04 wheels. I thought there might be someone out there who, as you suggested, bought an '02-'04 and took the wheels right off...but ebay only seems to have sets with a lot of miles on them...might be worth a shot...

How many of you have "settled" on a color or interior feature? The only other new car I have bought I ordered from the factory just the way I wanted it.

Why not get an '05 and see if the dealer will let you trade wheels with one of the 03-04s on the lot? It would be a selling point on the older car for the dealer, and you get the wheels you want for free.

Good idea. I was able to negotiate a set of small 15" rims and snow tires instead of 16" OEM wheels (heavy, and with run-flat tires I hate) when taking delivery on the MINI Cooper S. I was happy, and the dealer was happy.

Hey you car dealer guys...these leftovers, although they have probably been on the lot for a year, are now two model years old. They are offering me about $1200 under invoice (according to msn.autos). This sounds like a reasonable price (which I didn't have to haggle for); is it?

Make sure those leftovers don't have issues that will drive you nuts (acid rain, etc.) in a way that the savings won't remedy.

I wouldn't let the wheels be a deciding factor. There are just *so* many ways to get the wheels you want/like. IMO stuff like that, where you just have to find 'em and then turn a wrench, shouldn't be a deal breaker. There are a lot of sources for "take off" wheels. Some aren't as nice as you might want though, so be careful when you shop. I like the idea of asking the dealer to swap them.

But I would *NOT* compromise on color preference. IMO you're not gonna get used to it, you'll just wish you'd got something your really liked. The leather/cloth doesn't seem like that big of a deal, I generally prefer cloth, but I don't mind that some of our cars have leather. But if you don't want a red car, don't buy a red car. Every time you look at it, detail it, etc. you're gonna think that you really didn't want a red car...

Burnt orange  ! The Type S is too much of a race car for me; I'm sure the base car will be plenty fast enough for me and it gets way better mileage (do I sound old, or what?).

2005 Type S in either dark grey or black. What a great looking car.

Like someone else suggested, if the wheels bother you that much on the new models, the dealer might swap them out for you and just charge you the labor to do it. It's (like already said) a big selling point on the lefto over car.

I hope you end up with what you want.

Oh, and I demand pics or ban when you get it. :D

I love the 05 RSX's. Better wheels, sleeker front end, 10+ HP, better color choices...Definately an improvement. This is coming from a 03 Type S owner.

I like the Desert Silver Metallic over the Redondo Red. I rarely see a DSM RSX on the road. Both colors are discontinued  The Magnesium Metallic is the best of the new colors IMO.

Which 05 wheels do you not like? The Type S wheels are the 5 spoke wheels - The base model comes w/10 spoke wheels. Personally I love the new 17" Type S wheels. I am eventually going to swap them out on my 03 once the price comes down.

W/e rsx you get(id get the type s personally), please opt for the manual tranny. You will be kicking yourself if you don't.

I drive an 02 civic ex 5spd manual, and its a blast to drive. If I had the money though, Id opt for the type s rsx!!!!!!

Sooo...did you get one of them or decide on an '05? I think an RSX (even if it's not the much preferable Type S :D ) would be a perfect 2nd/commuter car. Love the way it looks, especially in darker colors and the seats/driving position are great. Acura MT's are sooo smooth too.:xyxthumbs

I like the black or blue pearls or even the white, don't think the car looks as good in a metallic, JMHO. BTW, lots of Honda/Acura discussion boards with classifieds sections to shop for '03/'04 wheels in mint condition.

Thanks, gearhead...I haven't done anything yet...if I wait long enough, all the leftovers will be gone, and then I won't have any more problems! I didn't really want the black interior, which comes with so many of the (really nice) colors. Anyway, all the popular colors are gone...the leftovers are the unpopular colors. The white actually looked pretty good...except for that black interior!

Seriously, if the car buying process wasn't so unpleasant, I might have bought a leftover back when they had a combo I liked more. I wish you could just do it online and UPS would bring the car.
