Review: Meguiars Detailing Cart

Detailing Gnosis
Introduction:
I purchased this from Autogeek at Detail Fest. I know it is made by another company but with the discount it was close enough.

Autogeek's Description
Meguiars Detailing Cart is a three level rolling cart designed to put all your detailing supplies within easy reach. Work more efficiently by rolling your supplies with you as you work your way around a vehicle. When you're not detailing, Meguiars Detailing Cart rolls neatly out of the way into a corner of the garage.

Meguiars Detailing Cart is made of engineered thermoplastic resin shelves with an aluminum reinforced top. The cart is completely resistant to acids, solvents, and petroleum-based products. The plastic cart will not mar your paint if it bumps into it. The corners of each shelf are rounded.

Notes:
Autogeek's description mentions an aluminum reinforced top. The shelves are all plastic and it could probably ding a car although not as much as a metal one. There are no screws used in the construction so no screw heads that can snag or ding though. Since it is plastic, there are no metal edges and it cannot rust.

It assembled very easy. A rubber mallet (I used a piece of wood and a regular hammer) helps push the tubes between shelves. The casters just press in and it was fairly easy by hand (no tools needed).

The advantage of this cart is the four swivel casters as opposed to many utility carts that have two fixed direction and two swivel. The cart can quickly moved into a tight spot against a wall without having to lift it. The casters are hard rubber and roll freely. Two caster have locks.

One of my goals to mount halogen or fluorescent lights on the cart.

Swivel wheels are a must for me too. I changed out the wheels on my detailing cart/wash bucket to 4 swivels. Life is easier.

I can think of several modifications I'd make to personalize that cart.
1. Spray bottle rack mounted to top shelf/outside edge.
2. Hook and laundry bag beneath handle for soiled towels.
3. Bracket with Sliding Hooks for handled tire/fender brushes.

I would also like a molded shelf extension applied to the bottom shelf to hold the MetroVac.

I was tempted to buy the Rubbermaid Commercial Cleaning Cart which has the above features, but the rear wheels can't be swiveled which makes it awkward to handle when putting it away.

I'm all about organization with wall shelves, cabinets and rolling carts.

I hang bottles off the side at the moment and now store many chemicals for quick access rather than on a shelf over my workbench or in the cabinet.

I do want to mount some lights in some fashion that does not make it tipsy. David Chapman mounted halogens on his custom chart. I had mounted my halogens on

The metro vac gives me a nice idea for my Master Blaster which has straight wheels so a pain to navigate in tight spaces and through wet areas.

I like the fact is it smaller rather than larger since it fits in a nice nook in the garage but know a larger one has more flexibility.

This is a really nice looking cart. I have been considering one for awhile. It's a toss up between this and the one that fits the GritGaurd pad washer.

Great review. You can never have too many shelves when you start working. I end up sitting items down all over my shop and then not able to find where I put them. A shelf on wheels would be a great way to keep up with the product and equipment that I use on most every detail.

Great review. I really need a cart. I was thinking about the grit guard one because I could put my rinseless bucket in the cart when I do the GDWM. The flat top shelf would be nice too.

Since my thread had some unexpected thread revival I will post some more recent uses:

Stowed away:

Using as a Master Blaster trolley

Mobile detailing kit on top shelf along some regularly used products
Metro Vac n Blo (smaller one)
Master Blaster sans hose

It would be mice to have one but at $150 I am getting to cheap at my age to part with that kind of money. I have already had to hock my left arm to buy the supplies I have. Sure looks like it would really come in handy.

:D

That's a great cart!

I have a metal Craftsman one that works pretty good but this one looks a bit nicer. After seeing pictures of yours, I need to figure out a way to mount and extension cord holder on mine.

Thank you for the review.

also great if you have 3 babies...hahaha..
but thanks for posting. I do have similar looking one but its has no wheels

Looks like a well built cart Al and with 3 levels you can transport everything you need right to the work...

Nice review and photos Al! :bigups
