Review: Detailer’s Pro Leather Cleaner & Conditioner

Introduction:

This is my third review of products from the new Detailer's Pro Aerosol series. The first two (DP Quick Wax & Trim Detailer) were very pleasant experiences. To recap, they are very quick applications, easy to use, great performing products. This one is a little different.

Not in that way. (You can breathe again, Stig.)

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

"Clean and condition leather surfaces in one simple step!

Smells like new-leather.
Provides a water-repellent finish.
Easy to use aerosol application.

Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is the one-step solution you’ve been looking for to clean and condition your vehicle’s leather surfaces. Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is packed full of cleaners and conditioner in an easy-to-use aerosol can. Formulated with a carefully selected blend of emollients, humectants, surfactants and conditioning agents, Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is the first and last step to retaining the soft, supple nature of leather surfaces.

Leather seating is a costly option for most vehicles and without proper care, leather will crack, fade and tear over time. As leather becomes soiled body oils, dirt and grime build up; leaving a greasy, tacky sheen that is not pleasing to the eye. In order to retain its suppleness, leather needs to be cleaned and conditioned on a regular basis. This applies to all leather types, including coated leather which is the most common type of leather found in vehicles manufactured in the last twenty-five years. Leather surfaces that are regularly treated with Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner will remain soft, supple, and retain that new-car aroma.

Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is dispensed in a thick, mousse-like foam that clings to the surface. Application is as simple as dispensing an ample amount to the desired surface and working it in with a microfiber or poly foam applicator. Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is strong enough to remove heavy soiling, but gentle enough not to break down delicate stitching.

Give your vehicle’s leather surfaces the same attention that you give to its paint with Detailer’s Leather Cleaner & Conditioner.

Not for suede."

Details:

1.- Packaging: Aerosol can
2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: Thick - stiffer than shaving cream but lighter
4.- Color: White
5.- Scent: Leather (well done, BTW - not the overpowering stuff in cheap conditioners)
6.- Price at time of review: 14oz = $ 12.99
7.- Manufacturer: DP
9.- Made in: USA

Other Products Used:

16x16 MF

Preparation:

None really. I'd steamed the leather seats about a six weeks ago and wiped them with 1Z Cockpit Premium every couple of weeks after.

Application:

Apply to MF. Spread on leather. Allow to dry. Buff lightly (I used the flip side of the MF).

Observations:

Nice, leather smell. The foam seemed to just melt into the leather. After spreading, it didn't look like there was anything to buff off. Spreads reasonably far. Matte finish. My seats were pretty clean so can't assess the cleaning power but will try on dirtier seats at the next opportunity (probably the next car ;)). Will update.

I took pictures but the differences are not readily apparent.

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

Pros:

1.- Easy to apply and remove
2.- Very fast application
3.- Matte finish
4.- Leather smell

???:

1.- Durability. I don't know but will monitor.

Cons:

1.- None I've found.

Final Observations and Summary:

So how was it different than the other DP aerosols or was I just messing with Stig? The other DP products are more your traditional aerosol product. You spray DP Quick Wax or Trim Detailer on the surface and wipe off. DP Leather Cleaner & Conditioner is more like shaving cream and you wipe it on, let dry (almost immediate) & then buff off. It is in a smaller can, too. Otherwise, DP Leather Cleaner & Conditioner has the good traits of the line - easy, fast application & great look.

And I was messing with Stig, too.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

How do you think this would be on a briefcase? (saddlebackleather.com)
Did it darken the Lth at all?

Thanks Angelo and Al.

Those are some sweet briefcases! Thanks for the website. Going to have to look into those. (I live in Texas after all. ;) )

No, it didn't darken the leather and added very little to no gloss. I couldn't tell from the website if the leather is coated. I suspect it is because it said the color wouldn't transfer. I would think the standard "no" would apply if it isn't coated but maybe Stig can answer better.

It's a full grain non coated leather...no finer anywhere.....thick, saddle type leather.....looking for an AIO..i'll order up

Nice review.

I may look into this as I find that leather creams tend to want to "fill" my perforated leather seats.

Thanks Troy.

None of that here. If did go in the perfs but immediately vanished. Quite pleased with that.

Great review. I wouldn't be too concerned about messing with the STIG, he assures me that your reviews are the Good Stuff!

I did a car that had dirt buried into the leather some time back. I wonder about products like this, if they would work effectively.

I have on hand leathique and lexol, that only removed minor amounts of grime...what ended up working to get it all clean was a 10 to 1 of PB APC with a boars hair brush. APC is NOT my first choice in fact its always the last but in this case the first two was not working.

For really dirty leather, I have been using Lexol and my Dupray steamer. Extremely effective. However, next one I get that is really dirty, will try it.

Does clean pretty well. This is just driver seat bottom. Had steam cleaned the leather about 3 months ago and looked clean before I did this.

Great review.

Just got a chance to try out my can. We have a new family hauler and the seats were pretty clean, so I can't really comment on cleaning ability yet. But it did make short work of a dark smudge I found on an armrest.
One thing I noticed about it that I didn't see mentioned in your review, was that it added absolutely no slipperiness at all. Not even a little bit, was wondering if you found the same.

I agree with your comments on the smell BTW, very nice and subtle.
