I am interested in removeing the chrome plating form plastic interior bezels. Ha anyone any ideas or suggestions on how to accomplish without harming the plastic please? I have heard that some platings have a shinny type of painted undercoating as well?
Back in my model car days I used regular household bleach. The parts were small and it was easy to soak them in a container of full strength bleach. Didn't take long as I remember. Did a nice job and left the plastic pristine for painting after a good rinse. I heard about it from Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine.
Thanks for the reply Mike. I have heard the same, but for model car chromed plastic...also heard something called CSC (whatever that is), Easy Off oven cleaner...even alcohol and finger polish remover, BUT I am wondering if the process used in model car chrome is the same process that the automobiles use?
I'm pretty sure that the model makers and the auto companies used the same process, vacuum metalizing, at least in the 60s and 70s. Why not ty the bleach on a test part?
