Regarding Celebrities...

jimmybuffit

That'll buff right out!
As Scottwax can attest, I've met a few celebrities along the way.

Publishing photos of their cars is ,to me, irrelevant. Look, they pay good money to have their car cleaned, and cleaned well. That's it. I had an NBA player tell me, last week, that he turned down MTV's "CRIBS" - I asked if there was much money involved in that offer, and he said, "No, just alot of ego."

(Among others, he has an 05 E65 AMG V12 BiTurbo - BLACK)

We do a $25 million dollar Gulfstream IV - the owner made promise to block the Niumbers if I showed the pics at all ( I think there are some pics in my gallery). It is a publicly held company...they my not want to brag...

I guess I've been doing this too long. While I appreciate the work, I am kinda over the celebrity aspect of this.

But, the Colts had a Bye week, and I'm turning away biz to accomodate them...

Overall, Life is Good.

I've done cars for a couple of the Dallas Stars, another is the assistant GM for the Minnesota Twins (his wife lives in Arlington year 'round and he is here during the off season, one is the head of player development for the Rangers and one of my regulars is a well known local sports talk/columnist. No one who is a really well known celebrity but they have some local recognition. Same thing here, at first it was kind of cool but now it is no biggie.

I think the biggest factor in retaining celebrity clients is to not be in awe of them and treat them like you treat your other customers. They already have enough people kissing up to them, they seem to appreciate just chatting about regular topics.

Glad to hear you are doing well Jim. You have earned all the success you have, my friend. :)

yea they are humans also and that is how i treat them not like a star only like a human.......ive done some FL panthers (many) players, miami dolphins(2) and one from the detriot tigers.....just treat them normal and all will be well.

Rick Hamilton lives down the street from me...i saw his car (maybach 57) at a 3 dollar car wash the other week...I really just want to knock on his door and do a pitch to him...but i really dont want him to think im some punk kid...I really dont know what to do....idk even know if this is relevant to this thread...

I worked at a place in the early 90s that had me detail vehicles for Jay Leno, Tom Selleck, Arnold Schwarzeneggar. I met them personally and they are all cool.

I recently have done vehicles for a couple of ball players (I was born without the sports gene so I don't remember who or for who the play for)

Money is good and they want quality over price as long as don't think your screwing them.

Ive re-read your post a few times Jimmy and I just dont see your point. Can you elaborate please?

Obligatory anal obsessive note: there is no such thing as an E65. Presumably, it's a CL65 or an SL65 (or an 06 S65)?

I apologize for posting in this thread last night. Apparently I had a bad attitude and I certainly didn't like the tone of my post this morning. Sorry Jimmy.

You know the *only* time that I have had a complaint that I charged too much was from an NBA player. :) It was no problem, I explained to him why I charged what I do and that he was welcome to "shop" my prices. He did and had his truck detailed by another "detailer." He called me the next week to fix the work, "that was an expensive experiment," he said.

It is the 06 S65. About $185K, plus an upgrade to 19" AMG wheels. Only car I've ever entered, and could not reach the pedals...

When he first brought it to me, with 465 miles, I pointed out that it was the best paint I had ever seen. He quickly replied, "It better be." :)

Today was a better day.

It's been a very long week (personnell issues). Today we did a 03 MB S500 (Black), Subie Outback (Black), Olds Intrigue (Gold), 04 Miata (Silver).

Sorta mundane. They certainly are not all celebrity rides... :work:

Time for bed...

There is no SL700 7.3 either, but I've seen one. Factory custom car.

If they don't want that you publish their pics, why would you start atopic aout this, you know somebody will ask then, :d

Sorry for the ambiguity. I guess it was inspired by rlspringer's recent post...

Jim

Perhaps some members missed the above referenced report...

I sure didn't want to highjack rlspringers post... so I started a new one.

It was not meant to be from "out of the blue".

Did an 03 Dodge Viper yesterday (an $85,000 car with Dodge paint).

Did an 05 Corvette (Black) and an 01 Porsche C4S ((Black) today.

All owned by pro athletes..

(I couldn't resist :spot )

Jim

I know what you mean by treating them like everyone else, I am just a weekend warrior but I have found out that just being down to earth is enough. Although I have not done any pro atheletes I have done some local news reporters in NY and 1 soap opera star (too bad it was a guy).

Are you mobile or do you have a detailing shop?
