Red, How tough to keep clean?

Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a Nissan Titan and the color is Red Brawn. It's kind of a Red with a little brown. My question is how hard is it to keep it clean? I have never owned a red vehicle and worry about it as if it were black.

My first choice of color was white then silver but the dealer has it on the lot and ready to go.

My wife is also concerned that she will loose me to the truck as I want to keep it show room new.

Thanks,

Steve

The truck is going to get dirty at the same rate, regardless of what color it is. :)

Of course, white and silver are great for hiding dust, salt, and dirt. Black is often the worst for hiding anything. Red is in between. It hides more than black, but less than white/silver.

The first major step in keeping your new red truck showroom new, is to TELL THE DEALERSHIP NOT TO WASH/DETAIL YOUR TRUCK! Since you say the truck is on the lot and ready to go, there's a good chance that the dealership's goons have already harmed your paint. I'll be fair though, and admit that some dealership detailers actually know what they're doing.

Thanks Paul!!

I think they may have washed it once. Upon inspection I didn't see too much in the way of swirls. That is my biggest fear. My Current Ford is gold and it seems much easier to hide the swirls, hence why I like light colors.

Thanks,

Steve

You already sound like you take great car of your vehicles. Does it really matter what color the new truck is going to be when your going to be washing it every two days?

Heh heh, I think *that* is the point, life's too short to be doing vehicles all the time. I found red to be as tough as black to keep the way I wanted it. In fact, back when I was spending so much (too much ;) ) time detailing I went back to black because I liked it better than red and the red was almost as much work.

fdresq4- I strongly encourage you to consider getting a low-maintenance color. It's a piece of cake to keep some colors looking showroom new.

Sheesh, this is the second time in about 15 minutes that I've done the "life is short" thing :nervous: but I find it tough enough to keep our *silver* vehicles the way I want them. I can't believe how much time I spent detailing my cars back in the day  Heh heh, more of my Autopian Heresy, huh :o

for me the cleaning detailing thing is therapy and it gets me into the garage into the sun and out of the house. That being said a black car is a labor of love. For a truck I agree a lighter color looks good. Some sports car or sports sedans 'demand' a certain color. Porsches silver or black. BMW black most sports car red see avatar and garage picss

Thanks All!!

Neothin,

What do you mean every two days??? Everyday!!! :D

Actually, I'm responsible for 3 vehicles in our house and my wife is afraid of loosing me in the garage.

I did own a black truck once and boy did I agonize over it, especially during Pollen season!!!

My current gold truck is fairly easy to hide the swirls and looks awesome. The red I am currntly looking at is sharp but I have two other vehicles that need my attention. They happen to be SILVER!! So Accumulator and I have something in common!!

Steve

I would get what ever color you like best, no matter how hard to keep clean. Metalic finishes tend to hide more than flat colors, no matter what color.

well there you go. With how easy silver is to keep up, you can devote the saved time to keeping the new truck clean! Go for it :woot:

Good News!!! The dealer called me today and they located a silver one!!!

I told him to get it so by next week I will have a 3rd silver vehicle!!!!!!

Steve

eh... silver is so..... blah. Yes you can get the metallic to pop like crazy... but it just can't compete with reflections, depth, and wetness of a dark color. but hey, your choice. I hope you enjoy it!

but hey, at least silver can go for more than 2 minutes between washings! That's something that I hate about dark cars. They're always dirty looking :(

I agree with Accumulator..I have a Bright Red truck...and it is as hard as black to keep up...and it shows everything....it is not as forgiving as lighter colors...

AL

Red is just as much work as black, IMO. It's a dark solid that requires a lot of attention to detail to insure a near flawless finish.

I would probably only by a silver or charcoal pickup if I had the choice. I feel those colors hide defects better but still look very very good.
