Hi guys, I need to buy some wheel cleaner spry to clean my 14" CRX aluminum wheels.

The wheels have some brake dust on them caked on, and on teh inside as well.

What do you guys recommend. Price is not really a factor.

thanks

Hmm...Canada. The easy answer is an HF-acid based wheel cleaner like Meg's Wheel Brightener. Some pretty varied opinions on whether that is really safe (for you) to use. There is the new Sonax Full Effect and Aquartz Iron Cut that should be safe and may be as effective as some of the non-HF acid wheel cleaners, but I haven't used either of them. I don't know what the availability is of these products up in Canada (heck, I don't even know if you can get that Iron Cut in the US).

It's gotten good reviews here, but I really can't decipher if it works any better than the other "neutral" wheel cleaners, or if it is just cool the way it changes color.

Try Meguiars All purpose cleaner Plus. Not expensive ($13 at Autogeek) and comes in a gallon size which will last a long time because it's concentrated and you dilute to different ratios for just about any cleaning duty. diluted to 4:1, 4 parts water to 1 part APC+ is good for engine bays, wheels, wheel wells, tires etc..

Info here: Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner Plus D103

Are your wheels coated aluminium?

If they are then the best cleaner I've tried is the new Mothers FX Wheel Cleaner:

lol sonax I think there were good reviews--if you don't mind the price tag--I detail my personal cars--and we have three all which drive around city--so i figure it's not cost effective...

well I used the Sonax today. I must say it smells aweful, but works wonders. Rims turned out pretty clean! I did alot of agitating as well.

All in All, I think it's a bit expensive but it does work very well.

Next try Mothers FX. You'll be surprised by its foam dwell time and effectiveness. (Providing you adhere to the warning above - which applies to all alkaline wheel cleaners).
