Quieting down generator

I just got a Coleman generator and it's WAY to noisy. It sounds like a lawn mower. It was cheap which is why I bought it, I couldn't see spending thousands for a Honda. Is there any way I can quiet it down? I'm thinking about building some type of foam insulated box to mount it in. Or possibly fab up some pipes through a car muffler.

Don't cover the generator.It's an air cooled motor and you will cause it to prematurely fail by limiting the air flow to it.Check out Jack's they may be able to help you locate something that will work for the coleman.

If you choose to do it with a car muffler let a muffler shop handle the work.Our main line of work is pressure washing and we know a lot of guy that have set their machines up with car mufflers.
 
I started out with a coleman. It served me well for a few years. I spent $120 back in 1992 for their top of the line muffler for that thing.

I think it was actually LOUDER!!!


Save your pennies and buy a honda when you can. I run two hondas now and they are sweet generators.
 
In 6 years in business, I've gone through 2 generators and I'll never buy a quiet one because it draws attention to your service in these wealthy communties. I've been approached thousands of times, not a single time for the noise but for a business card or to setup an appoinment, Martin.

Hey that makes sence, make allot of noise and get clients.

I already have a quite generator so I am going to have my assistant sit in my van and blow the horn while I detail.

Yea I know, you post about how busy you are and how much money you make on most of your post on this forum as well as others.

Joe just saw an opportunity to poke you in the eye so I took it, I knew you would take it as a joke, goodnite, Martin.
 
Martin has a nice set up and it appears he works on some nice rides. Maybe he braggs a little bit too much about it or maybe I need to work on my sence of humor. No hard feeling either way.
