QUICK REVIEW: Optimum Car Wash

Optimum Polymer Technologies is a small company that has been making big waves in the detailing industry since 2001. Based out of Memphis, Tennessee, Optimum Polymer Technologies was founded by Dr. David Ghodoussi, the former paint polymer chemist for PPG. Optimum Polymer Technologies' motto is “Accelerate Into The Future” and the continuous advancements Optimum puts into each new have kept to that statement.

Optimum is known for their amazing WOWA sealant, long lasting carnauba spray, amazingly safe and powerful Power Clean APC, unique solution polishes, and more.

Well how advanced can a car soap be?! Can it rinse clean while providing strong cleaning power, with out stripping waxes or sealants?!

Read on in this quick review....

Mixing Optimum Car Wash is easy. Mix one ounce per one gallon. Optimum Car Soap smell nice (light fragrance ). I added 4 ounces to 3 1/2 gallons of water.

Then I used a strong blast from my hose to fill the remaining 1/2 gallon of water. The result was a volcanic explosion in suds.

So lets get to the chase.

Feel

The feel of Optimum Car Wasg is slick. I was using the new Micro Chenille wash mitt and this was really a perfect combination. The mitt glided across the surface, releasing the right amount of solution. It definitely feels slick.

Cleaning Power

I had some bug splatter on the front (excuse the halo effect, I had water splatter on the lens) and may wheels were filthy. I figured each would provide a valuable test for the this soaps cleaning power.

As the Optimum Car Soap solution glided across the surface with the Micro Chenille wash mitt the bug splatter residue seemed to dissolve. It was very strong on this.

How would it do on my brake dust covered wheels?!

Using no pressure and as much solution as the Wheel Woolie would hold, the brake dust also seemed to melt away.

Rinseabillity

As you can see the sun was coming out so I quickly washed the rest of the car and rinsed. Optimum tends to sheet quickly off the paint. Drying was no problem.

Quick Conclusion:

Optimum Car Soap is one of the strongest, best cleaning soaps I have used. It cut through bug grime and light tar with no problem. It is has a slick feel that instills confidence that you are removing grime and dirt with out creating swirl marks.

It is almost a bonus that it doe not seem to degrade sealant (or even carnauba wax) protection at all! You will scratch your head wondering how something so powerful can be so safe, just like you scratched your head (likely created a bald spot) wondering how Optimum Power Clean can degrease and engine yet be gentle enough for leather.

It rinses away with incredible ease.

Optimum Car Wash is (yet another) winner from the brain of Dr. G!

This is my second favorite super-premium shampoo (behind only BlackFire Conditioning Shampoo). Completely agree with everything Todd wrote.

Has anyone used this in a foam gun or cannon? I'm curious to hear how well it works in that application.

Nice review Todd.

If I am not mistaken the: "Mix one ounce per one gallon" is actually a typo on the bottle that has never been changed. It is my understanding that you can actually use it @ .5oz per 1Gal. I have been told if you have hard water the "one ounce per one gallon" will help to soften the water and add cleaning ability.

I also use 0.5oz/gal. Guess I skipped over the instruction part - both in Todd's review and when I mix it up.

Nice review. Optimum car wash is always in my inventory. One of my favorites and it has such a addictive smell as an added bonus.

Optimium is one of my favorite soaps. It smells great, works great even 0.5 oz per gallon (label has never been updated), does not dry out skin (seems to leave something on them that will smell like blueberries for some time), and great in a foam gun.

I had asked David G. what he said was one key differentiation between Optimum and other soaps and he said gentle cleaning.

Some say it adds gloss but I really cannot tell that much. The funny thing is supposedly that Ultimta does not leave anything behind yet I always felt it does. It has a unique shine.

Dear Friends

I bought a gallon of Optimum Car Wash upon mjlinane's recommendation of it, and it is my favorite soap. I use it with an MTM Hydro foam cannon and Cleanforce 1800HD electric washer. I use two or three ounces of soap with about twenty ounces of tap water in the foamer and get really nice suds. Those suds stick around my driveway for a full day if they're not in direct sunlight.

And the shine Optimum Car Wash leaves on our new Odyssey is great--not nearly as great as what mjlinane just showed, but far beyond anything I'd seen prior to trying this soap.

I've done one wash with Blackfire's Conditioning Shampoo. Upon mjlinane's suggestion, I had to try it, so I chose a sample of it in a recent order (and have yet another sample waiting for later this week). I used two ounces of Blackfire's new soap in my foamer and got good suds--not as good as Optimum's but good enough. Blackfire's soap may have resulted in slightly more gloss that Optimum Car Wash, but I'm not sure. One thing I am sure about, though, is that the van dried more easily after the Blackfire wash. I don't know how the soap could have anything to do with it, but it did.

I don't know how well Blackfire's new soap cleans compared to Optimum Car Wash because our van wasn't dirty when I washed it.

In choosing between Blackfire's new soap and Optimum's, I'd choose Optimum because of the cost. Optimum's product costs less than half of Blackfire's. But I still plan to get a gallon of the Blackfire soap after my wallet heals from yesterday's order, which included Blackfire's new spray wax.

Perhaps my favorite thing about working at Autopia is that we offer so many great products. There is no right or wrong answers, just preferences! :bigups
