quick connect/disconnect for hose?

joyriide1113

There is no cure!
I've heard of the quick disconnect systems for the foam gun, but I was wondering if any existed for use with the garden hose. Something I can use to quickly switch from the hose gun to the pressure cleaner and then once again to the hose.

Does this type of thing exist? And if so where would I be able to find it?

Yes. Any hardware store will have them.
Most building supply stores, even Wal*Mart or Target.
The metal ones are probably more durable, but I only use plastic ones in case I drop a hose end on a vehicle.

That's kinda funny because I finally went out today and picked up a couple quick connects with the shut-off valve from Lowes. After using it I've realized I was an idiot for procrastinating and not picking them up sooner because of the time it saves and just plain ease of changing ends now without having to walk back and shut the water off and then change ends, then turn the water back on...

I remember reading before, but don't remember where or who, so excuse me for not giving you you're credit, but I plan on getting one of my old garden hoses and cutting it at about 4 inches from the end. That way I can use it as a quick-connect flooding tool.

You're excused.:)
Make it at least 12" to 18" long for it to do what you want.

Norah is the queen of quick disconnect items... I have them on my FG and can switch from FG to hose sprayer in seconds

I agree that the metal ones are more durable but i myself do not want them near my vehicles. I recently upgraded all my hoses and nozzles to the QD fittings. I got mine at Sears came with nozzle/whatever nipples and then the QD fitting for the hose.

Here's a picture of my rinse hose with disconnect and shutoff valve.

I got quick connects last week. I can now easily switch from the Pressure washer to the FG. I bought plastic because my pressure washer came with a plastic quick connect. I am planning on upgrading to metal soon, the plastic ones just seem to disconect themselves from the pressure washer.

I went ahead and bought a brass set. it came with 1 male, 1 female, and 3 nipples. lol... Whoever named them must always have the giggles. lol. I paid 8 bucks in total. They seem pretty strong. Amazing how these type of recommendations go unheard. It should be in the beginners list.

Thanks again guys.

I tried this last spring too. I didn't really care for it as the disconnect caused a loss of pressure/flow. Did I do something wrong or has anyone else notice that too?

I also made a undercarriage sprayer with a four foot section of PVC and a quick disconnect. That worked out well.

I don't think I have noticed a pressure loss, but I don't use that much high pressure spray to remember for sure. It was never a problem.

Was your undercarriage sprayer like this?

exactly thanks again for the pics. That's where I got the details from. I was trying to remember who designed the thing. Works like a champ. Thanks again for sharing the design.

I have threaded a dual faucet adapter (splits into a "Y", capable of accepting garden hose on each end) onto my pipe that I normally connect my garden hose onto. That way, I can run two garden hoses (both 3/4"). The dual adapter has on off switches built in -- I leave them both on before I start the car wash. Then, I just plug in my pressure washer any foam gun into each hose and use whichever one I need (using quick change adapters, of course). Only the hose that is being used (pressure washer or foam gun) is making use of the water pressure, hence there is no drop in pressure. Works for me, and it is a strictly "at home" device.

Allow me to impart some info on this subject. Over the last few weeks I've been researching two things for hoses... shut off valves and quick disconnects. I think I've learned far more than I ever wanted to!

While they seem like a great idea there is one problem inherent in almost all such items sold in garden center, Home Depot/Lowes, and such stores and that is these items severely restrict the water flow. They can cut water flow by anywhere from 20% to 50%!

The plastic kind are the worst offendors because they can't make one strong enough with a large flow. The plastic throat needs to be quite thick for strength therefore severely restricting flow due to the smaller orifice. Just look at that small hole in comparison to the hose diameter. Metal is best, preferably brass. I wouldn't worry about hurting your car using a metal one because I think it would be kind of hard to hit the car with just the disconnect or shut off valve, just use common sense and don't switch things near the car.

I've settled on what I believe is the best on the market. Dramm makes a cut off valve and a quick disconnect as well as a thumb valve all Made in the USA that literally have a zero% restriction on a 5/8" hose. They aren't sold at Home Depot or such, try Ace Hardware and other local hardware stores. While more expensive than the plastic, they are well worth it and I think they even have a lifetime guarantee.
