Hi everyone,
I am frankly not at all a detailer, so I'm looking for advice before I bring my car to one in the future and have them do a professional wet sand and detail.
So I just picked up a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI with single stage enamel OEM paint.
I have the expected small rock chips on the hood, etc. that need to be touched up, and I want to bring the car to a professional detailer to have it thoroughly gone over and wetsanded and buffed and potentially have Opti-Coat or a similar coating applied afterward.
At this point I am all about preservation of the original paint of the car even though I recognize that all though there are areas that are certainly not perfect; the original paint is in such good condition that I would rather do my best to have it preserved and claim that it is such rather then respraying the car.
So I have a single stage acrylic enamel that I had mixed at an auto body paint supplier and I want to do the touchups on it in preparation of getting it detailed. I have read that if the paint is too soft it could actually get "sucked up" by a rotary, so I want to give it proper time to cure.
How long would I need to wait to allow it to fully cure before I had it detailed? Weeks? A month?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
