Porter Cable advanced pads are great (my review).

I used to use these tiny pads:

My order was messed up and in the end I got these pads:

Off the bat I noticed the Advanced pads are larger (duh), it allows me to detail more of an area in a shorter amount of time, not a small time increase; it really cuts down my detailing time.

The velcro backing is 100 times better than the regular pads I am used to, I used to use the old pads until they were literally smoking!!! After 3 of those incidents, a 1/4 inch section of the velcro backing all the way around the pad would wrinkle up. The pads were junk.

The pad doesn't have a edge like a wall, the edge sort of wraps around the backing plate so you don't have to worry about hitting the backing plate up against your paint. You can use the edge of the pad to get into tight little areas that you would normally have to do by hand.

All I have to say is GET THE ADVANCED PADS!!!!

So if I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that this pad is better for both big areas by having a larger surface area and small areas by allowing you to use the side of the pad to get into tight areas?

Damnit, I just bought 3 of CMAs regular pads. Oh well, They can't be too bad or they wouldn't be used by so many people on here.

The advanced pads are new to CMA so most people are set with the others. Hey, if they work for you and you don't have problems then there's no need to swap. It's not like they stink or anything, I used them for two years.

The advanced pads are awesome because like you said: they are large to enable you to detail more space in less time yet they still are nimble enough to reach into small areas. Two for one.........

I'm about ordering accessories for PC 7336 in few days but do you think I should get this pads?

my planning was getting:

- DM-KIT $59.95

but should I get:

- Velcro Backing Plate, VBP-6 $16.95

- Advanced , Variable Contact, White Polishing Pad 46-676VC $10.95

- Advanced, Variable Contact, Yellow Compounding Pad 46-576VC $10.95

- Advanced, Variable Contact, Grey Finishing Pad 46-776VC $10.95

if so do I need to get any pads from accessories included in DM-KIT?

If you ask me, the kits are useless, you get equipment you don't need and not enough of what you do need.

I would recommend:

3 Advanced yellow pads

2 Advanced black pads (applies wax really fast)

Pad spur

If you don't mind applying the wax by hand, don't even get the black pads. Save yourself the money, get some extra microfibers or something you can really use. The yellows pads are all you need.

If you ask me, white pads are useless. People think the white pad is useful because it can clean up the smallest swirls but I never have had a problem with any swirls being left behind in the first place.

So you guys are using a 7 in. pad with the PC?

This may create far too much drag for the PC motor and, while it may work, it may also work to hard and degrade the PC in a premature manner.

Also, a large pad also means more heat build up. This may not be a factor with the PC but it is with a rotary polisher.

In regards to the white pad, these are my mainstay for polishing and I also use them for mild cutting. I hardly ever use a yellow cutting pad mainly because the cars I am detailing have no need for a cutting pad.

LOL!

Man just when you think your convinced about one thing, you find out about something else that starts to boggle your mind:D Just when I thought the Advanced pads were better when using the PC, Anthony comes in and says that the pads might cause too muich drag on the PC. NO offense man, it's just funny to think when you start to understand and convince yourself, something else comes to mind!!!,,,,,91

Hey guys, the original comment that raised my eyebrows was this one posted by joed where he stated:

One can use the 7 in. pads with the PC but it can cause the PC to work a bit harder when the 6 in. pads work just fine, especially if you are using the white polishing and the black finishing pads.

I mean lets face it here, the PC, while a wonderful tool, is not what one should be using to correct paint problems and/or med. to heavy scratches. It is meant to be more of a mild to light polisher and for applying waxes and sealants for which the white and black pads work awesome. They are very forgiving, much more so than the yellow pads.

The "Edge" pads come into their own when used with a rotary where their unique design can be utilized fully.

I do apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

I dunno... is this pad drag issue all that serious, especially with these pads? If you look at how the pads are shaped (concave and convex) it would seem to me that not 100% of the pad surface would be contacting the paint anyway. :nixweiss

By contrast, Meguiar's pads (6" face) are perfectly flat so those probably drag more than any other pad, yet people still use those just fine....
