Portable Generater vs. Power Inverter

Have a 849 and no where to plug it in.What is better and how much wattage or amps do I need. Will 2 hrs of use kill the car battery(camry hybrid) if I use a power inverter. Thanks PM
 
In my experience power inverters are great for powering small stuff like cell phone chargers and laptops. To power a DeWalt 849 polisher you would need an inverter that can handle 1000 watts. An 8 amp load at 120 volts equals 100 amps at 12 volts, not including the loss from the inverter itself. Figure a 15% loss from the inverter itself, so your 12 volt system needs to put out 115 amps at 12 volts. The only place where big inverters make sense is in yachts where you're running stuff like refrigerators, and you have plenty of space to permanently mount big, heavy duty inverters. I would suggest a portable generator to power your polisher.
 
1000 watts is gonna be the continuous useage, you probably want one rated for at least 1500 continuous, ideally 2000 so it can handle the startup peaks. If you go cheap on the generator it'll run but the generator will be LOUD. A good honda generator is really quiet, some are as quiet as a passenger car idling.
 
If you ran a 1kw or 1.5kw stereo for 2 hours your battery would be worthless.



I suggest a generator, I HIGHLY down any inverter will do the trick. Too much hassle and risk.
